Looking for a 1440p 27' IPS monitor around $500

Hi all, as the title suggests I'm looking for a monitor with the above requirements. I would prefer 144hz (for gaming) but I don't mind 60Hz if it means I save a few hundred bucks based on my searching so far. Also, it must have as little bezzle as possible. At the moment, I am thinking of this one from future gear on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182566404749#shpCntId

I am asking here as I don't have the time to research everything (ive spent a few hours on it already) and was hoping someone here might know of some other monitors that would suit. Finally I prefer something within AU/NZ.

Thanks all. This is my first forum thread so apologies if I missed anything.

Edit:
In regard to dimensions, the monitor cannot be much wider than 620mm (thats how much space I have for it). Any larger would be too uncomfortable in terms of the overall setup. Height not much of a problem but most monitors will be similar height with the previous width.

Would a 32" monitor be too big?

After the 20% off, these two come to ~$334 each including shipping.

    Viewsonic VX3209.
    AOC Q3279VWF8.

Viewsonic has an IPS panel and it seems that the AOC has an MVA/VA panel (high contrast @ 3000:1 and higher response than TN) as well as Freesync which would help with gaming if you're using an AMD card.

    • Thanks for your response!
I Like that viewsonic one, unfortunately 32" is too big for my setup. I am a little confused as to why they are cheaper than the Asus one, yet theyre larger? Also this is my fault but I should of mentioned I use an Nvidia card so I cannot take advantage of freesync.

I'll keep the viewsonic one in my list when I decide to buy though. If I can save the $100 and see if I can make it work (ill sort out the measurements). The reason I chose 27" inch is because it is the largest size that would be perfectly comfortable in my setup.

      Thanks again.
      Edit: Updated OP with Dimensions

      • I had the QNIX 2710 DVI-d only which i was able to overclock to 100hz. If you want 27" ips then this is the best route, it'll come from Korea in about 3 days for about $350 all in, maybe a bit more for a pixel perfect. Wait for an ebay coupon and buy.

I currently have the viewsonic vx3209 because i wanted a bigger screen for multitasking but dont have the space for a multi monitor setup. Its awesome.

I'd recommend the QNIX 2710 DVI-d only model over it though due to the glossy screen and overclock. Make sure you get the dvi-d only model, the multi input monitors DO NOT OVERCLOCK

        • How do you find the VX3209? Re: colour accuracy, backlight bleed, and pixel response time. Any complaints? Thinking of getting one myself but can't find much feedback.

          @donnot:

colour accuracy is good, i haven't felt the need to bust out my calibrator at all. BF1 response feels good and i dont notice any delay with pixels.

I haven't actually tested for backlight bleed but if there is any its almost unnoticeable compared the the bleed on my old qnix. Zero dead pixels as well

        • @karanimal:

          Perfect! Thanks.

Have you played on 144hz before? IMO 144hz/1080p > 60hz/1440p for gaming.

    • +1

I agree, however certain games I play (e.g Heavily modded skyrim and Fallout 4) will break when run at above 60fps due to how their game engine works with physics. I was looking at 144Hz 1440p IPS (IPS is a must) I could not find any within my price range. If I were to go the 144Hz route, it would have to be 1440p. Ill keep looking though.

      Thanks for your response.

This is exactly what I've been looking for too, but 144Hz+ is a must for me for CSGO.

I found this on the eBay 20% spesh:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/27-AOC-AGON-AG271QX-WQHD-144Hz-Ga…

    $566.20 delivered. Best 27" 1440p 144hz I've seen yet?

Reckon I should finally pull the trigger on this?

    • I saw that one too and I like it!
Unfortunately for me, no IPS. Since I have been running a temporary Lg ultrawide 1080 with IPS, I cannot go back to TN. The colours are just so much better with IPS. For competitive play though, TN i think is a must due to the 1MS response time that IPS has not able to match (correct me if I am worng).

If IPS didn't matter to me, Id probably pick that AOC one. as I was looking at it until I realised it was TN :/

Here is a link to a review on it by Hardware Unboxed (Aussie) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pX_N5biITe4&t=449s if it helps you mate.

      Thanks for the response.

      • Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I figured I would sacrifice TN for refresh rate for CSGO gaming. To go 144hz AND IPS will push the budget too high I think. Hard to find that for under $800 and in many cases is over $1000…. $566 for me is still expensive but much more palatable….

In any case, it should be worlds better than my budget 24" 60hz 1080p TN monitor…..

        • I would go With your choice, however for me its not worth the $140 extra. It is certainly better than your current one though!

        • @Ahbal:

Yah, yours is a good choice for image quality over refresh rate.

Don't forget to apply the 20% CTAX20 eBay spesh!

        • @lozza6:
Yep of course, with that it comes to $422 including shipping. Haven't managed to find a better one yet, but I'll give it a day in case someone here comments with a better one.

      • I pulled the trigger! Hopefully the colour isn't too bad, can't wait to fire up 144hz, 27" and 1440p!

        • Nice! Im still deciding! I keep going back and forth between 144Hz or IPS! Ill decide by tonight though, just waiting a little extra in case the hump day deal is a monitor or someone here posts something I haven't seen yet.

        • @Ahbal:

          Good luck!

Yeah IPS 60Hz is a bargain. If you don't twitch game like CS:GO or other shooting games, you're probably fine.

        • @lozza6:

Yes I agree. I play more RPGs/Racers than I do shooters. As well as a very heavily modded skyrim which looks so much better on IPS (ENB's don;t look that great on TN).

  • I am also looking to upgrade from a 7 year old 24" 1080p monitor and 22" 1680x1050. Not sure whether to go 4k or QHD, or 27" or 32"? to be honest I am out of touch with the technology and pricing these days. I don't play PC games, but am thinking of maybe plugging in my Xbox One so not sure how important the refresh rate is. I kinda like the idea of having a single, larger monitor rather than using dual screens. Definitely want good colour accuracy for photo editing..

    • The Xbox One won't break 60fps, so any monitor will be fine (base refresh rate of 60Hz). The 27" monitor OP has in his post, this one, covers the full sRGB colour space so it should theoretically be good for photo editing (can't find any figures for accuracy/deltaE etc though).

To go 4K and with an IPS panel, you'll have to pay a significant premium (can get TN 4K panels that are similarly priced to the IPS 1440P ones, but viewing angles and colour accuracy will be poor).

  • Go this one. LG - good brand, IPS, 5ms response, 1440p…just 3 inches short of what you were after, but right on the money.

    http://cplonline.com.au/monitors/lg-24ud58-b-24in-flat-ips-m…

    • That's 4K…

    • +1

      just 3 inches short

Three inches is a huge amount. For example moving from 17" to 19" gives almost 25% more viewable area.

    • I can only imagine 4k on a 24" - Still struggling (but loving) it on my 30" - Couldn't comprehend this res even with just the right windows scaling on 24"

    • Thanks for the response, however 4K at that size means text and such would be very small.

  • Update: Im going to pull the trigger on the one I linked in the OP. Ill give this post another few hours just in-case someone has another monitor or has a warning about Futuregear (the ebay store Im buying from).

    • ASUS VZ27AQ

The one you picked is a good deal, $407.72 delivered, and deserve to post it as a deal.

      • +1

Yep I pulled the trigger. I'll post it as a deal now actually.

        • +1

It looks like you score a bargain, the monitor is now listed as $551.76 + delivery, as opposite to $490.65, before discount, that you paid for.

        • @O O:

Oh wow, thats good to hear!

It arrived an hour or so ago, I absolutely love it.
