I Want to Upgrade from My Moto G4 Plus, What Are Some Good Options?

Hi guys,

My G4 plus is quite laggy now, have googled and tried a few things with no success.

So I think I'll just upgrade to something a bit better, but I would like at least the same sized screen or bigger, and a better camera. Everything else is it has is fine.

What are some good options for an upgrade?

Thanks guys!

Moto G5 Plus - working well for my dad, did you like your G4?

    • It was good until this lagging started, now its a bit annoying…

      • Wait the 625 chip lagged? That's a shame.

Edit: nvm you're talking about g4

  • Have you tried factory resetting your device?

    https://www.quora.com/How-can-I-reset-factory-setting-in-my-…

    • I haven't tried but I read that other people tried it and it didn't fix the problem, so didn't bother.

      • Don't discount it. It's at least worth trying before you buy a new one. you will have to do it if you plan on selling it anyway.

        • Yeah, I've only had it for 5months or so though, don't really want to have to factory reset all the time.

        • @mikey13b: Resetting can help if it's due to corrupted files, some mess up with settings etc. I've also heard that there are cases where mSD card can cause issues as well (something to do with mediascan causing CPU usage to skyrocket), so I'd try resetting that as well.

Resetting is an easy to eliminate the possiblity of software bugs from usage. If it happens again, then you can be certain that it's the phone. If not, then you saved money.

        • Ok thanks guys, maybe ill give it a shot then…

  • Lag cause of overheating, can't even do a 4 min video before it freezes.

  • moto g5 plus has a much more efficieny processor than g4, does not overheat nor lag. you can buy it for 300 bucks delievered off ebay using that 20% off code from a few days ago, on the futuregear ebay store

  • The g5 has a smaller screen though, didn't really want to go smaller than 5.5inch…

    • g5 plus is 5.2 inch, its not that much smaller than 5.5 (i own both g4 and g5 plus). speed and battery on g5 plus is measurably better, the processor is incredibly efficient.

      • That camera is a huge selling point too.

        • yeah im using it nowadays, camera is almost s7 quality in daylight. At night its pretty average though tbh, I feel moto needs to invest in their camera software tweaking a bit more - the z2 play has the same sensor but somehow better quality than g5 plus, hopefully software updates will improve the g5 plus later this year

        • @nathan-drake: probably not, they're saving a spot for the x4. Need to differentiate their product somehow.

  • if your phone is lagging, then consider rooting the phone and installing a ROM.
you'll get a huge improvement in responsiveness, but then you have to be on top of updating the ROM (if the developer decides to patch it with security updates).

the Motorola ROMs are amazing and i'm speaking, with experience from the G2 and G3

  • I have not seen one — I don't think any customers have yet — but the new Nokia 5 or 6 looks pretty handy.
Pure Anrdroid, good features and well priced — and Nokia has always built decent handsets.
Accoriding to the interwebs they are on sale at the end of July.
