Buying Premier League Tickets from Australia

I am looking at travelling to Europe later this year and would be interested in seeing at least one BPL game while I am over there but am not sure how to go about tickets. The only option I have seen is Stubhub (not sure how reliable they are as is) who can only post the tickets within the UK. I could have the option of having them posted to where I'm staying but I don't plan to be in each place for a huge amount of time.
Any suggestions?

  • A word of warning with StubHub, some football clubs have transitioned to membership cards with game tickets "loaded" on following purchase. A colleague of mine bought "tickets" on StubHub and ended up having to join Chelsea FC (two memberships for two tickets) to go and view the game. I do believe the tickets were in a members area though, but it's just something to consider when reviewing the options.

  • I joined Arsenal a number of years ago to get tickets. I don't support them I just thought it would be cool to see a game. And they were playing Man City at… maybe Wembley. No idea actually. It might have been emirates in London actually.

I'd recommend just going through the normal ticket methods for the public over there. Even if it means joining a club. Those resellers are always dodgy…

  • I used to work for Stoke City, so I know you can buy them online at Stoke's website http://www.stokecityfc.com/tickets/saledates/

Or you can call their ticket office. They don't go on general sale until 27th July though.

Would imagine most other clubs have their own websites you can also purchase from but unlikely you'll get any for the big 6 teams unless they're playing some lesser team.

Find out the General sale release dates for tickets for the match you want and get in quick.

Firstly don't call it BPL or EPL, Engligh people will laugh at you - its premier league or prem league. Sorry the below is a bit London centric (I'm from London).

Really depends on which club/match you want to see. If you are not too concerned about seeing a "massive" game between top 6 teams then you could buy tickets for many games from club websites without being a member closer to the time. These are sometimes advertised on the British ticketmaster site.

As a general rule, the League cup will provide the cheapest and easiest tickets for midweek games, however big sides often play reserves but these go as low as 15 quid in the earlier rounds.

If you are there during the Champions league group stages, there's another good chance to buy tickets as they are midweek night games and a lot of season ticket holders do not go to all the games. Its one of the best chances to see top quality football and the home side will be striving for 3 points by putting their best side out.

The biggest sides you could probably get for Premier League would be:

Tottenham playing home games at Wembley, massive capacity should mean high availability
Man City usually fairly easy if they are playing a lower table side
West Ham - another big stadium (Olympic) middling team last season
Crystal Palace - fair chance of tickets

Liverpool/Man United/Arsenal/Chelsea always really hard to get tickets - if you do they will likely be very expensive.

If I was you, I'd start looking at the club websites a month out from your trip. Also factor in travel, London>Newcastle return could be very expensive if booked late doubling the cost of the experience.

You can see who's in the premier league, and stadium capacity here:

    • Tickets booked online are often just a bar code these days sent to your phone or email - much the same as here. Physical tickets are dished out at agencies/box office.

  • My father-in-law is a pom and a very keen Man U fan. He goes back to the motherland about once a year around Christmas and usually goes to a United game.

His advice/method is to book through a sports tour company. I think this just includes hotel and game tickets, not 100% sure though.

Probably not the cheapest way to get tickets, but apparently one of the easiest and should be applicable to other clubs as well.

  • Most club pages sell direct, i don't think any top flight club doesn't do this now, i've bought most from them (when i haven't been able to get them from family) i know they are legit and never had issues.

If you have friends or family local to where your staying, they can ask their friends / family if there is a possibility of using their tickets for a game they might not be able to make. (They generally know a good way in advance which games they won't make)

Tottenham was mentioned above good choice in London gives you 3 options to buy tickets Tottenham, whoever they are playing and Wembley itself, they have their own ticket holdings as capacity exceeds either clubs actual allotted season ticket holders volume.

Wembley used to allow (technical) Neutrals buy direct

Tour companies have holdings too for jolly tourists to enjoy a game without getting mugged on the price from some dodgy scalper outside the ground.

get the fixture lists for teams you want to see and start researching now.

I went to watch Barca play a couple of Months ago and Camp Nou is an experience in itself, so if your in europe in general it's another great one to tick off the list, seeing neymar a few feet away in full flight was something you just can't appreciate on tv especially with the atmosphere

I've watched many a game when visiting the U.K. Been to WHL, highbury, emirates, bridge, OT. I've always got tickets by paying someone £40-50 for their season pass for the one game I'm in town.

Usually find a willing seller on Craigslist. But beware the con people on there. Never pay by PayPal or bank deposit. Always cash transaction at the gate. Ask for proof of ID.

Never been burnt, always have as seat in the front few rows amongst real fans so always a good experience.

  • Just moved back from living over in London.

We purchased an Arsenal Red membership for about 30 pounds. Then each ticket we bought was 37 pounds (went to 3 games in London). The ticket automatically gets transferred onto your membership card so you just have to swipe your card at the gates.

I've had friends living in Australia who have memberships for Arsenal who have had their cards delivered to them, so this might be an option for you

    • Hi, I will be travelling in in two weeks and will be in London in time for Arsenal vs Spurs.
I'm not sure how to get a ticket but do you think if I became a red member I will be able to buy a ticket for a game ($ not n issue). What if I don't receive the card intime?

      • Two weeks is a bit of stretch. The ticket gets loaded onto your card, so no card = no entry generally. Not exactly sure how to get around this

        • Tickets are always in high demand for Arsenal v Spurs at the Emirates so it could be tricky finding availability. It doesn't help that red members usually get last crack at tickets too (behind the other membership tiers).

I purchased an Arsenal red membership and tickets for a match last season. I emailed the club to see what the story would be if my membership card didn't arrive in time. They advised me that if that occurred, I could just pick up my tickets at the Emirates ticket office. As it happened, my membership card arrived around 5 days later so all was good.

A couple of left field back up options for you:

          1) If you have a premium credit card with a concierge service, they can often get access to premier league tickets -but the price is in US dollars and often well above face value

          2) If you are an Emirates Skywards member and have enough points, you may be able to redeem them for tickets to see the teams they sponsor including Arsenal, Real Madrid and PSG. From memory I think the tickets are in the Emirates corporate box.

Best of luck with the tickets. The Emirates is a fantastic place to watch football.
