Anyone using the LG 34UM58-P 34" 1080p monitor?

Looking to replace my 2nd monitor, a korean Q2710 1440p monitor with this 34" LG one.

Does anyone use one and what is your experience like with it? My main concern is backlight bleed.

This was the same model that MSY sold for $300 including delivery half a year ago and received a ton of flak because they only had like 150 units. I was pissed but what can ya do.

This is currently going for $415 on ebay with the 20% code that ends on monday.

The reason i'm after a 34" ultrawide is for movies and 1080p because my 2nd screen only ever displays 1080p content anyway (youtube/shows/movies).

1080P and a 34" Monitor do not go well together. You will be able to see pixels.

Also, watching youtube videos on a widescreen monitor? 99.999% of videos have a 16:9 aspect ratio so you'll be seeing black bars or a cropped image. You might as well go for a 16:9 aspect ratio monitor then.

Looking at reviews of that exact model, it appears to have a matte screen. The back/bezel/frame is glossy though.

    • Don't know why someone downvoted, I bought it and it has a matte screen.

  • You can do it. There are a few companies making gaming monitor that's 30+ inches at 1080p 144hz. Some people are a bit anal about these things (I am also), but it's achievable for the sacrifice your making. I have the same monitor and have a 24" 1080p Acer monitor on the 2nd dual. It does the job but I leave the main screen at 21:9

  • I've got the LG 34-UM58 ultrawide

The biggest drawback about it is that sometimes it changes brightness when there's a dark scene and there's just no way to fix it so it's a bit distracting for movies/tv shows.

Gaming's fine, but it's no 144Hz but playing GTA-V is pretty sweet I have to say. I mainly use my 144hz ASUS 27" for gaming.

On mine, that was simply a monitor feature that I disabled from the menu. Have you looked through the menu? It was some kind of power saving thing.

That must be it, I had it on low and I've turned it off. Thanks very much for it!

  • I have the LG 34UM68-P ultrawide.
Great screen, I can't see pixels with standout at all. Just don't have it too close to your face and make sure you have space to fit it with other screens.
    Nothing negative about this model.
