Flashlight on-Board or Check-in

Hi guys,

I'll be travelling down to Tassie next month and was wondering if I could actually bring a flashlight onto the plane or even have it checked in?

It will be this flashlight from Bunnings. https://www.bunnings.com.au/eiger-lighthouse-6w-cree-led-mul…

Oh, if anyone recommends any nice/good backpackers inn/place west side of Tassie, that'd be great! I'll be driving from Launceston to Hobart via the Cradle Mountain down.

Thank you! (:

  • yes i do it all the time in an event of a plane crash, have a flash light.
but that thing is huge! You going carry that up the mountain and back?

  • Just check your airlines exclusion list. You should be fine though - in a plane crash it would be useless (no time to find a damn flashlight… just get the hell out!)

your lifejacket has a light and whistle rafts have a range of goodies too if you are ever that unfortunate

first item once your organised get the quells into everyone once one person chucks it's a nightmare

OP that is a bit of a brick if thats what you want could you not pick it up once you get to Tassie get it put away for you.

I've never attempted click and collect at Bunnings

some of the LED ones are getting good i've got a Wolf one that would blind you, it's set up like a head band so you can direct it where your looking while wandering through dark places and it does the job keeping both hands free.

  • I always carry around a 18650 powered light in my pack with extra battery and its been fine.

That thing you have is a brick. I recommend something more compact.

      you're not the only one…

    • dude WTF ?

  • I have used that torch, its not awful but it is very very light. The battery must be tiny. I would not recommend it for any sort of travelling.

If you want something cheap then get one of these: https://www.dx.com/p/singfire-sf-508-cree-xr-e-q5-200lm-3-mo… AAA batteries are very cheap and its handy to replace them when travelling. I own several of these and they are better than the Bunnings torch but 1/10 the size.

I'd suggest a headtorch if you're actually camping.

  • get a dynamo torch for daiso for $2.80

  • Thanks guys. I'll be heading to the mountain for some trekking and stargazing, maybe some camping.

So advice to get a smaller one? :/

  • we have that torch - it is very powerful and is great to use as a room light as well as the directional light function of a normal torch. Battery is tiny but it recharges via a small usb cable. We have fund the charge lasts for ages. The unit itself is very light and if you have space in your luggage then go ahead (it also has a cross body strap making it easy to carry if you are out and about tramping around.)

    • Sounds really good (:

I'll definitely try to check it in! Exciting!

    • Yeah, but I'm not too sure where this flashlight falls into. I guess I'll take the risk and bring it to the airport!

  • I have a couple of these. Small, cheap, very bright, and what I really like is it charges off my phone charger! For best value, buy one including a battery. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/352082907875

  • we have bunnings here in tas we arent that far away

*incase they take it off you

  • curious as to why you need to have a flashlight as carry-on luggage

    • In case they don't allow check-in for lithium batteries.

  • Neither. We have torches here in Australia, so that's what you should be taking with you.
