What happened??? Wanted to upgrade my PC, been looking at 1060 6GB for a month, waiting for it to drop but it is now even more expensive??? Yet sold out everywhere!?!?
Turned my eyes on RX570/RX580 and its the same…Someone please tell me whats going on and when will it be normal again?

Crytocurrency mining. Graphics cards are what enables people to mine currency, so they buy all the mainstream cards such as 1060 / 1070 and RX570's since they are the best value.

That! But I dont see why people believe these virtual coins of no real value. Some kind of scheme the display card manufacturers and electricity companies collude to be the real winners?
Electricity companies have no interest in cryptocurrencies. Doesn't really benefit them in anyway.
As for Nvidia and AMD, I suppose the "mining boom" is great for them because of the increased demand. But for consumers it's bad because the short supply means increasing prices.
