Your email address seems to be your username, so if it tells you it's already taken, just use a different one.
You may have the same name as someone else, I just tried to re-register using the same first and last name combination and it doesn't allow me to, says that the username is taken already as well. It's a silly way of having the accounts, maybe try adding your middle name or an initial?
As per other comments below, it may be your email address as well.

It worked for me.
Maybe try a different email address, as when i click on My account, it basically shows the same screen as when you register, so no "username" option
It doesn't tell you whether you're one of the first 10,000 though, so not keeping my hopes up on getting one, although kudos to the OP in posting about it

Gmail email not works..try hotmail or some other email.
I used my gmail email and it works..

Note that there was a free Pantene giveaway through Rogue only a few weeks ago (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/30395). You may have applied for that and the database is checking whether your email (and name?) is new.
I think it may have expired now and I got the last one. Or it remembers my isp.

I got mine on Monday but just picked it up from the post office today. Woot!!
I tried, It kept telling me my username was already taken. Considering there was no box for a username in the form I gave up. If anyone can figure out what that was about, Id like to know.
