Unknown ISP "City Cable" Good or Bad?

Has anyone used an ISP called 'City Cable'?
https://citycable.com.au/

I have Googled them but the only thing I can find is negative posts on Whirlpool that are way too old to be reliable.

If anyone has used them recently then please provide me with feedback as my elderly parents may switch from Telstra home phone to these guys with ADSL2 250GB with VOIP.

Thanks.

  • This is their facebook page.

Not sure if they are somehow linked to TVB broadcasting company as some of their plans offer unlimited TV streaming.

    • Probably not the same company but they must have some sort of deal with TVB Australia as they are recommended ISP for streaming TVB Anywhere for their internet set top box which my old folks are going to get.

I guess I just have to hope they are reliable for streaming and VOIP and a tiny bit of internet for my folks.

  • Lol They seems like nasty Chinese company

as you can see https://citycable.com.au/cableinternet.html, Download allowance is just 150GB if you choose more than 20mbs speed option and says they will charge 1 dollars per GB that excessed data.

The only feedback on whirlpool suggests they at least were nasty when they first started business where they would setup a server in an apartment building and the whole complex was sharing internet on a single connection but charged people normally…..but that's for apartments and not a house which is what I want to find out more about.

Well, the plan my parents will go for has 250GB and they don't even know how to turn on a computer or a smart phone, won't be a problem here.

      • Better to stay on the safe side and install some kind of broadband monitoring app.

Most decent smart routers like ASUS-RT series do this.

        • The website doesn't state the brand and model of the modem, I'll have to email them to find out more info.

If they don't reply or are slow to reply then I won't sign my parents up with these guys but will probably go the Optus route.

  • Why dont you go with buzz internet?? They are one of cheapest isps

    • I've had a look at their website and wasn't 100% sure because website kind of seemed messy and wasn't displaying properly on my laptop.

But Buzz and MyRepublic do look very good for value.

      • I actually am with buzz now. Had slow issue at the first day but after solving my router issue I am getting 96/34. Never had 10 mb downloading speed except in Korea

  • It charge you an arm & a leg if you switch from ADSL to NBN connection. Beware
