Transferring AmEx Rewards Points - Best Value?

Hi All,

I currently have ~200k in Amex Gateway Points + 140k in Qantas FF

I was looking at purchasing two flights via Qantas for a total of 240k Points for sometime next year, but Amex doesnt have the option to transfer to QFF.

What is the best option for me to do, to be able to fly via Qantas and use my FF points i aleady have with them?

Or is the only option to sell my points and go with a different airline? i haven't used rewards points before. so im unsure on what to do.

Thanks

Gateway's transfer rates are bad except for SPG. From there you can transfer to other airlines.

    Where are your flights from/to?

    • ^ this guy's on it. Depending on destination, this can often provide the best solution. A great option I'm sure paultiffen would point to is this http://www.pointhacks.com.au/marriott-spg-aadvantage-transfe… whereby your 200k pts could end up as a week's stay in a marriott hotel along with two return business class tickets to South East Asia (depending on if you transfer to AAadvantage or United programs).

Look at Asia Miles, you can use them to book Qantas flights (or any Oneworld airline) and they usually are cheaper too. This guide may help you out a little depending on where you're looking at flying to: http://www.pointhacks.com.au/100k-asia-miles/

  • sell points on the classifieds. much better value.
    sent you a pm

Where, when and how many people are you looking to fly to for 240k Qantas Points? One way or return? Economy or Business or First class?

Knowing this will assist with directing you to what best options are as different points transfer partners have different strengths when it comes to routing.

    • Spot on Tizey

    • Would be looking at either going to NY / Somewhere in Asia

Now even looking at the option of flying to Singapore and getting a cruise back to Sydney.

      Two people.

Was only talking about the QFF as I've got a few of those points racked up already.

      Return.
