eWISH Gift cards cannot be converted in-store anymore.

Hi ALl,

See below for my communication with woolworths.
It seems that WISH cards cannot be bought using eGift cards..
If you need to cash out, do it now before it becomes common practice.

  • hmm whats the benefit of physical vs e?
    can give to others?

use woolworth money app, you can add both and monitor the balance. easy. plus with ecard you dont need to carry physical plastic anymore to spend it on the store

    • It's more of being able to purchase a Visa/Mastercard gift card or another store's gift card so you can use it there since you can get the WISH eGift cards at a discount occasionally.

      • That's not what is being reported by OP. OP is specifically saying you can't use eGift Cards to buy physical WISH cards. Doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to use eGift cards to buy the other cards like the ones you've mentioned.

          You're right, my bad.

I missed that part, I only read the response OP got from customer service.

Unfortunately you are no longer able to purchase physical gift cards using an eGift card.

    • i sometimes convert e-gift vouchers to gift cards to give to older relatives who have no idea how to use e-gift or think a print out is sketchy and too embarrassed to show the cashier.

  • When did this seem to come into effect? I exchanged some 2 days ago past sunday

I got rejected at Woolies Ermington & Wentworthville (West Sydney).
The benefit is to use at Caltex stores that don't accept e-WISH. I also give them to my Mum who isn't tech-literate.

So what happened? The staff came to assist you and they were like, "nah you can't use those"?

      • I'm also interested in how the OP was rejected - the system or the operator?

      • -3

Operator. The stopped the transaction when I tried to pay via e-gift card.
They said the system would allow it, but the actual transaction was dis-allowed by 'head office' - which is why I emailed to confirm.

For future reference, in future cop it sweet and go try somewhere else.

Don't go emailing head offices, that just draws attention to such things and make it more likely that the system won't allow it in future.

GOSH ! this is so unwise. Pls don't do that again by emailing confirm it with headoffice..!!!!

Just walk away from the stubborn operator nicely and try again next day or another store.

          @leehungfei:

          head in the sand mentality.
I dont want to waste my time for 5%
Rather just go aldi instead then.

        • @jasonb: Posting on a public forum is just as good as emailing head office. Companies often check forums such as this looking for any "loopholes" that are being exploited.

    • You can probably either print out or just write the number and pin down for your mum… caltex thing wont last long with BP buying the woolworths servos anyway

No problems converting egiftcard to physical wish gift cards today (Brisbane Airport Woolworths), so definitely an operator or policy thing, not technological change
