  • Making a big fuss over something small again. There are other variants of ransomware and malware that are far more widespread impacting businesses every day and never reported in the media.

isnt that what the news is all about these days….Sensationalism

mountain out of a anthill thing

      • Pretty much. At least these articles help raise awareness and remind people to have updated functioning AV software.

        • updated functioning AV software.

Which wouldn't have saved the victims of this malware. Getting past AV is trivial for bad actors and has been for a long time.

AV will save you from older threats so not completely pointless but expect it to prevent malware and you will be dissapointed.

        • @Diji1: Of course. User awareness is the most important step as AV software can only do so much with the amount of zero day exploits and AV disabling code floating around these days.

Intercept X is very good at stopping these kind of threats, but it's not your typical off the shelf product and not cheap either.

or, more sensibly, just switch to linux …

        • @mtg: Explains why everyone uses it in the real world… Oh wait.
