Moving Cardboard Boxes

Moving soon - 2 bedroom apartment with kitchen utensils and in need of moving boxes. What's the cheapest or possibly free way of scoring the boxes in Sydney?

Thanks

  • As an ex-manager of a fast food restaurant, I used to be more than happy to put aside boxes out the back for you to pick up later that day - it meant we didn't have to fold down boxes and use all our space in the bins. Chip boxes are sm-med size and we would go through dozens in a day. Maybe these days they get paid for their boxes in recycling (they get paid for oil now) but if you are friendly enough with the local fast food joint just ask.

Woolies/Coles etc or even Bunnings have stacks of boxes that they set aside at checkout for customers to use to pack their stuff.

    • Thanks, I doubt Bunnings will give many free given they actually sell moving boxes as well. But will give it a try

I got quite a few of my packing boxes for free from Bunnings….They have a section past checkout where the boxes are piled up for people to take home…

        • Thanks mate.. will give that a go

Bunnings don't give out free boxes and only give you 1 or 2 if you make purchase

  • I see many people ask on Freecycle but don't know if they are successful in general.

  • gumtree also have bunch of free boxes

My mate used to work in a warehouse and they have lots of cardboard boxes available. They even thanked me for taking the boxes as they need to pay to get rid of them. Post a 'Wanted' ad on gumtree or ask around on facebook.

  • Try those FB "buy, sell, swap" groups? We recently gave away a large Peter's of Kensington box with packing peanuts to someone moving after posting a pic of it (I know it was only one, but better than nothing).

Plenty of free "moving boxes" on FB marketplace, Sydney area.

  • My local https://www.kss.com.au/ had half price used boxes.
