Surge Arrester/protector - under $100 best value

Hi Guys,

I've been using a PVR for a couple of years and it often gets upset by minor surges. I'm after a good value surge arrester/protector for under $100. I don't mind if it is a 6+ board.

I found this one on ebay:

Which is not bad for $80.

I noticed Dick Smith have a complete UPS system up to 500VA for $129 but it is a little pricey. Any ideas or suggestions for something similar but cheaper.

  • damn…if you were in brissy…you can sign up fo the ezygreen thing
    free one :)

  • I ended up getting a Crest one which topped a Choice test a year or two back. It was only about $36 and from Coles of all places.

If you're interested, do a search for this in the Whirlpool forums - you'll be able to track down results of the test and more details about the surge protector itself.

    • hmmm will have to check it out on WP. Thanks.

  • I wouldn't pay more then $30, none of them are that useful and probably won't save you anyway.

I would get a UPS if you are trying to actually protect your equipment.

    • Yeah I was thinking the UPS was really the option for real protection. Might have to grab one off ebay!

  • i have several smaller ups's that do the same thing but have battery backup, the most i have paid was 32.50 and the best one i have cost me 17.00.

if your looking for a bargain and dont mind not new, then go to ebay and buy a ups second hand

otherwise ozstock / ozab sell not a bad one with individual switches (6) for approx 16 and they are well spaced apart for phone chargers etc
