Cheap Fitness Tracker (or Smart Watch) That Can Display Notification Message

Hey guys,

I would like to get a wrist device that can show time and notification message. Ideally it should be light weight and able to display common notification messages (Whatsapp, email, SMS etc).

I have looked at the MiBand 2 and other Chinese fitness trackers. However, all of them either cannot display full messages or requires the user to install a very heavy app for pushing notifications. Most of the time those apps are badly built and half broken as well.

Have you guys come across any good device that is decently priced and also have a clean app?

Any ideas are welcome.

TIA.

  • The Samsung gear s2 does all those things, perhaps Telstra will run another flash sale.

    • Lol dude, I have like a $35 budget.

      • $35 dollars will only get you those cheap Gearbest smartwatches. Mine is still in the mail, but I guess I'll give you an indepth review (checks watch), next year when it arrives :)

        • Well those are what I am looking for anyway. I just need one that has a cleaner / lighter app.

        • @MadMaxBargainRoad:

I have quite a few smart watches, Pebble (original), Pebble Time Steel, Galaxy Gear S2 and Gear Fit 2, all of which will do SMS / Whatsapp messages, without the use of any 3rd party app. All baked into the operating system.

Pebble is a dead company though but their watches still work as intended. I use mine when I don't have easy access to charging points.

Second hand pebbles would be around $40 to 50 dollars. Brand new Pebble Time probably $99.

        • @scrimshaw:Thanks for the info. That's very interesting. I wonder how they can get push notifications without 3rd party app. Is it some sort of licensing issues which stop the Chinese ones from doing it?

Mate, I picked up one of the STRIIV Fusions from this deal. It says out of stock on the deal, but clicking through there appears to be more. Well worth the $15 and fits the bill in terms of displaying messages, and app is very straightforward.

    • Do you have a link to the app in Google play?

Nvm, found it. Damn, I think I really like this one -simple and functional. It's currently out of stock on eBay.

Do you know if you can see messages from other apps? Like WhatsApp, email or Wechat?

I've got notifications turned on for Messenger and Textra (SMS app) which come though no problem, I'm sure there would be no issue with those listed. You can enable notifications from any installed app as far as I can see (tick box type enable for those you want). I'd warn that anything lengthy (like emails) might be a bit tedious though as the screen can only display a few words at a time as you scroll through the message.
