Hiding Deals by Tags

Is there a way to hide deals by tags? I'm not interested in all those alcohol deals, and they appear to fall under the Groceries category. Could I hide only the alcohol-related deals somehow? Cheers

Not sure if anything has changed since it was last asked, but this was the best option last time it was asked.

    • Yeah, I did try that button for the main deal, but it suggested to hide all deals from eBay, or tightarse =\

Although this still works for hiding deals from alcohol stores, cheers!

Well most are Dan Murphy's so you could hide that at least, should get the options:
Hide deals from store Dan Murphy's
Hide deals from store Ebay.com.au danmurphys_au

Just ignore it and move on. Seriously not that hard and alcohol deals don't pop up daily.

You don't drink, cool. I'm sure your eyes won't burst into flames by seeing an alcohol deal every now and then.

Yes you'll see a few now as ebay has a booze special on. But no different to any other ebay special. Lots of crap posted as bargains.

    • Not saying it's the OP, but there are a lot of people with addiction issues where the less triggers they see helps. So it's easy to say just ignore and move on, but some people with addicted personalities do not have the luxury or ease of ignoring triggers.

      • If you have an addicted personality then you have one full stop. If you don't see a 'trigger' here, you'll see it somewhere else, hence the addicted personality.

Should we ban pizza deals as overweight people don't need 'triggers', same for mcdonalds deals?

The world can't bend for each and every person in the world. Sometimes you gotta suck it up and live with it! We all have issues.

        • Who said anything about banning anything? Just like you can choose to ignore a shop or person, this person is asking for greater control on what they can block.

        • @Rumbaar: ban = hide.

Sorry meant ban as in hide from users view, as per the rest of my post.

Yes they are asking for more viewing controls, but doesn't mean you'll get it. They might GASP just have to deal with it.

  • Doing anything by tag is quite problematic as many users don't tag deals, so you'd end up having a pretty inconsistent filter that would only hide half the deals or it would take many hours before they are hidden until a moderator/power user tags them. That's also the reason we can't have subscriptions on product tags or similar.

We'd have to create alcohol as it's own separate category in order to have a user hide alcohol deals, that's a possibility in the future but we'd have to do the numbers to see if we have enough alcohol deals. No promises there but we can definitely consider it when we look at it next, I've made note of it now.

The other option would be collating all the alcohol stores and creating a 1 click option to hide deals from all those stores, however once again that would be an incomplete solution. New alcohol stores will continually pop up, change their domain or users can submit deals without setting the store and you may still see that deal until the store is set. Furthermore there are stores like ALDI or Grays Online that sell alcohol but also other things, even Dan Murphy's sometimes have Spring Water or Energy Drink deals on Ozbargain. We wouldn't want to give an option of 'Hide alcohol stores' if it's not guaranteed to hide them all and it's reliability will decrease as time goes on, basically we could never provide a complete solution without having an actual alcohol category.

For now we recommend doing as sss333 suggested and click on a deal from the known alcohol stores and then press hide, that should block out most of them. If you see any alcohol deals in the future just hide that store, assuming it's an alcohol only store. Alcohol tag and click on a random Liquorland, Dan Murphy's, BWS, First Choice Liquor, GoodDrop, Vintage Cellars etc. deal and press hide and select that store.

Instructions on how to hide stores - You can also hide particular users.

    • Maybe 1 day we could have sub-categories? So Groceries > Alcohol would be an option

    • Hmm could I have exceeded the number of stores I can hide or something? :D When I try to hide this store https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/330074, the checkbox appears unchecked when I open the pop-up again, and the post still appears in the list..

      • Yes quite possible.

        • Can I see the current list of stores I've hidden somewhere?

        • @vludax:

Settings > Edit > Deals > Blocked Stores

          Direct link

        • @hamza23:
          Cheers!

  • Can we also hide by stores and users on the live page? Thanks.
