Time to Renew My Telstra Contract

My contract expires soon with Telstra (currently its 14GB for $50 per month for 12 Months).

At present, I want to remain with Telstra directly and was wondering deals others were getting. Ideally I want to maintain the $50pm.

Thanks in Advance

    How did you get 14gb?

There was another thread on OzB/Whirlpool which I saw many other users get that deal. Spent a few times on livechat but eventually got there. From what i gather it was a $70 Plan with $20 discounted so effectively $50 for that $70 plan.

      • Thanks,
I'll give that a try, i dont think your going to get better than 15gb @ $50 a month at this stage, but as per Wiede below

        I am on 18GB per month $50 ($70 plan, $20 credit + bonus data).

I was on 13GB but then I asked them what can they do to keep me from moving to Voda (you need to talk to the disconnection team). The person gave me a bonus 5GB afterwards with a new 12 month BYO contract

Thanks Daniel, only an ozbargainer will know. We try to get much more GB's for our dollar and thats why I'm here too!

But talking to the disconnection team implies you will lose your number (bluff). No one calls the disconnection team for mobiles because you would just port out.

        • @onebutters: you talk to the disconnection team to get a quote for what it will cost to port out also.

Good question. Also is this just a data contract or is it voice/SMS/data and MRO for handset?

    • This is a voice/sms/data as a BYO Sim only.

  • $50/mth for the $70 byo plan, 15gb data, from the below tip.

That sounds like a decent deal. I'll see what they can do. Thank you Wiede

      • Telstra sent text messages out to some customers last week

Just to say thanks, we're giving you an additional 5GB of data for free, every month while you stay on your current plan.

It goes on a little bit more but the above is essentially the message.
It also has a link to https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/bon…

The long and short of it all, a few of my friends are on the $70pm with $20 credit + bonus data (13gb total).
In the last few days their account is showing 18gb data allowance.
I am thinking this is perhaps the best offer you might be able to achieve, at that price point right now, with Telstra.

        • From what I gathered from a Livechat personel, it is from people whom have been with Telstra for 8+ years.I have only been with Telstra for about 3-4 years which didnt warrant me getting the bonus 5GB.

        • @skatecheap:

Those Asian call centre opperators will tell you just about anything, you have no way of verifying the information?
For what its worth, the friends I refer to all migrated to Telstra from other carriers to take up the offer.
They have been Telstra clients for approx 6 or so months?

        • @Cheap Charlie:

I have been a Telstra mobile customer since 2012 so < 8 years

  • skatecheap,
    What was your final descision?
I'm in the same position and was wondering what you ended up going with.

  • I saw a banner at JB HiFi today for Telstra 12 month plan for $50. Frtom memory it had at least 10GB internet (may have been higher), unlimited calls and texts and free access to AFL & NRL

  • 18GB for $40. Plan is the $70 one with a $20 bonus others have mentioned and another $10 loyalty bonus applied. At the time that plan included 7 or 10GB standard and I had them increase it to 13. Two weeks ago they contacted me via SMS and they'd added another 5GB, no renewal of contract necessary.

When I negotiated the plan I only asked for 13GB for $50. The additional $10 off was a surprise when I saw my bill but has been applied for about 10 months now so is ongoing.

My wife's on the same plan but paying $50 (she doesn't get the loyalty credit). We're on the one account so our data is pooled into a 37GB bucket and its $90 total (37 instead of 36 because apparently that was an easier figure for them to apply :s)

We both also got 12 months free Apple Music and 6minths each of Netflix which stacked back to back to a year of that service.

I have a friend who also gets the same 18GB for $40, 12 month Apple Music etc. like me he negotiated a renewal late last year and unexpectedly also received a $10 credit.
