FIFA World Cup 2018 - Optus TV Only for All Games?

hi all,

So FIFA world Cup 2018 is on june 2018 and I have been reading (see link below) that both SBS and Optus have the rights but only Optus will be showing all games.

It looks like we need to get Optus TV to get every game of the world cup…..is that right?

Anyways of getting Optus TV cheap for world cup?

Optus will transmit live coverage of every FIFA World Cup game across multiple TV and internet enabled devices, with SBS covering one live game per day, four of the round of 16 games, two quarter-finals, both semi-finals and the final.

Every game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and coverage of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in which Australia will be playing and the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

SBS coverage includes:
* Simultaneous free-to-air rights to 25 games in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, including first pick on one live game per day, four of the round of 16 games, two quarter-finals, both semi-finals and the final.

*Free-to-air rights of some games of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, in which Australia will be playing, and the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

  • wow this sounds really good, I had optus for 1 season (epl) and was really impressed. Would be happy to swap 2 sreens of netflix for the EPL with someone or something similar.

  • Very good news..

  • I signed my mother in law up for unlimited prepaid with Optus for $30, then I realised their iPad plans around Christmas cost in total roughly the cost of buying the device outright, then they had their 25th anniversary and I got the 100Gb plan with the iPhone 7 256GB handset for 25% off. I must admit that the EPL was a fairly major consideration but there is reasonable value there and there are few choices available if you want a decent handset with lots of data anyway. The resellers just don't compete in that space and I don't think they're allowed to anyway. Telstra prepaid with free Google credit was fantastic until they started cutting the data allocation to force people away from that grandfathered deal. WTF - how did Foxtel miss out on the EPL, Australia games and the World Cup? All the extra soccer they've brought in to replace it just doesn't compensate - people are time poor and would generally prefer to stay up for an EPL match at 2am than choose to watch say an obscure French League match that is on a the same time. Its spilt milk now - feeling a bit betrayed by Foxtel after years of patronage. Maybe they break the bank to have a dedicated AFL channel that most subscribers don't want.

    • So if I put my mom on a $30 ultimate prepaid then I can acess the football on her phone?

  • I guess easiest way to get optus tv is buy their fetch tv box?
