Home Staging Service

Just wondering if anyone here has engaged in home staging service?
If so could you please share your experience and if you would recommend it.
We are about to put our house on the market and considering home staging (agent thinks otherwise?)
TIA

If your house is high end, definitely worth it.

    • just a mid-range 15 year old home.
its tidy, but our furniture is dated, so wondering if its a good idea to sell it empty.

Probably cheaper to buy from 2nd hand store or fantastic furniture

    • thats not a bad idea! will keep that option in mind.

Fantastic furniture would most probably look cheap and tacky.

I haven't done it, but surely some Google-fu could give you inspiration to make what you have look good enough to sell. I'm not wholly convinced that a stylist can 'add thousands to your sale price'. Get your agent to give you some tips on presentation, declutter (chuck it away or stash it in storage), clean thoroughly and you should get pretty close to what a stylist will do. We were offered styling by our agent for around $1500 on top of the agents fees, but declined.

    • this is the funny thing…
my selling agent (who has a 20 year reputation in the area)
says to get rid of everything and sell it empty.
      somehow im not convinced.
should i go with his suggestion or go with my gut and get it staged?

      • You must have some really crappy furniture!

        • one man's trash is another's treasure :)

Your agent will have experience in the market, empty units do look alot larger internally that units full of furniture do, especially if its painted well, it will give the illusion of space.

I would follow your agents advice, home staging is alot bigger in the upper end of the market, not mid to low range. I would say in your case its just a waste of time and money.

        • thank you for your insight.
i will give the agent's recommendation a shot seeing he is very experienced in the area.
suppose i could always stage it later if need be.

Why dont you go on some inspection around your area amd understand the market?

Also you can engage more agent for more opinions? It is completely free of charge.

I did it with my property when i sold it, and would definitely recommend it

Basically, a designer comes out to the house and looks at what they can use/not use and then they recommend pieces from their warehouse to put in. From adding art work to the walls, or re-configuring the layout it really helps
