Textbook Missing Pages

Hi guys,
I bought a textbook about 3 weeks ago and only have just started to read through it and have just realised that through the middle there is about 100 pages missing/ being misprinted with the same 100 pages before it.
The online bookstore I bought it from says that they must be notified by 14 days of receiving the item, but it has been about 3 weeks what can I do about this?

Thanks

  • Give it a go anyway.

Get in touch with the bookstore anyway; if you don't have any luck, approach the publisher.

What do the T+Cs actually say?

I would think 14 days is for your "normal" returns? This would be an exception to the rule.

If they refuse I would just do a dispute with my bank…perhaps "goods not as described"? But your bank might know a better reason code.

  • Give it a go but dont tell them the dog ate it

If they are Australian, you have ACL.
If they are not local, still try.

  • Not fit for intended use. Consumer Law basics???

Contact the publisher and if they don't offer to replace it free of charge tell them you will give your dud copy to the media

Hi again guys, They are an Australian store, I've contacted them yesterday and sent some photos as proof but they still haven't gotten back to me, but I've sort of drawn some notes and scribbles on some of the pages as well will this be a problem.

Marking the book with notes and scribbles shouldn't be a problem, because they won't be able to resell the book even if you sent the book back in pristine condition.

It might be easier to quickly get in touch with the publisher. It might be a number of books affected by a particular print run, so you might not be alone.

Shouldn't matter, the textbook is unfit for use anyway and they should replace it.

  • +4

yeah since they sold you a defective product they shouldn't make up their own terms on whether they will take it back or not

I bet the book is called "how to diagnose if you have Alzheimers" .

I've got some good news for you.

  • +2

    You have no problem.
Regardless of any use you made of the item, it was supplied clearly defective, so they need to make it good, probably by a replacement or refund at no cost to you.
Your state's equivalent of Fair Trading should be what you mention going to if they don't sort you out straight away.

Think of it this way: If you've got the same 100 pages as the previous pages, then you're going to know all the answers, right?

    • +3

What sort of nonsense logic is that? The answers to the textbook generally are at the back anyway, so you can look there if you feel the need.

  • must have put the same section in the hopper during the binding process. 100% chase it up, the seller will get in touch with the printer/binder.
