SOLVED - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 - MMS Problems

Hi everyone. Has anyone had any problems with sending and receiving MMS messages on the Redmi Note 3? I'm on TeleChoice, by the way. I've checked the APN settings and it matches their APN details.

I know most people use WhatsApp for sending media, but I don't use it.

EDIT: Changing the network to 3G makes it work. Could be a bug with MIUI 8.5.3.0. I'll log a job with Xiaomi.

Hey there. Missus has a Redmi Note 4 on TeleChoice and the only way I could fix her MMS issue was to set the phone to be on 3G only (i.e. NOT prefer 4G or LTE).

When set on 4G the internet etc works fine, it's just the switching to download/send an MMS that's the issue.

If there is another fix, I would love to hear it.
    Cheers

    • Wow… okay… that kind of fixes the Band 28 issue too, I guess. :P

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I might log a job with Xiaomi about this one then.

    • I installed Textra as the messaging app and now mms works fine. No need to change any other settings on Redmi Note 4.

  • Have the same problem with my Note 3.

Haven't seen any solution to it, nor much at all highlighting it as a common issue

    • Glad to know I'm not the only one. I have yet to ask my friends overseas.

  • No problems here on my RN3P on Telstra.. (NitrogenOS Custom ROM)
I'm using the Telstra MMS telstra.mms APN

    What ROM are you running?

    • I'm using the native Xiaomi ROM. I have yet to flash it with anything else. I tried Fitzy777's trick. Switched to 3G, and I can send and receive MMS messages. It's a good workaround until Xiaomi fix this. If ever.

  • I've been able to receive mms ok, no settings changes needed. I'm on exetel which uses optus.
Using the normal MIUI global rom, 8.2.3.0(MHOMIDL)

    • I'm on 8.5.3.0(MHOMIED). Could be a version thing.

  • My Redmi Kate keeps on turning the blocklist on in the call settings so that only text messages from numbers in the contact list get through.

  • I've got the Redmi 3 Pro (so not quite the Note) and don't have issues with MMS. I'm on Aldi (which uses Telstra).

I'm sure you've tried it, but did going into Settings -> SIM cards & mobile networks -> Always receive MMS help? Might be hidden in a different spot depending on your MIUI version.

    • That's on by default. Even turning it off and on again didn't help. But it seems likely it's a version problem with the Note 3 ROM. I'll wait for the next version.
