Suit Jacket and Pants Alteration

Hello Team,

Picked up a suit in the recent sale at Myer Melbourne CBD. Need to get the jacket sleeves and pant length altered. The sleeves doesn't have to be altered from the shoulders, so it shouldn't be a massive job. I checked the rates at Myer Melbourne and the rates are about $60 for the sleeves and $25 for the pant length alterations.

Does anyone know a good (not too expensive) tailor for suit alterations in Melbourne CBD or the suburbs close by? Please let me know any suggestions/tips.

Thanks in advance. Cheers.

    'cheap good'

    • Fair enough. I have now updated it to 'good (not too expensive)'.

    shortened?

pant legs -just buy use hemming tape - super cheap and super easy to apply i.e. just iron it.

jacket is a little different. but still hemming tape and iron would work to create a sharp crease/cuff.

Most of the larger shopping centers have small retail shops or hole-in-the-wall type counters/kiosks (e.g. Alter It or Looksmart or Alterations Now) that do simple alterations like this, usually a lot cheaper than a tailor would be. I'm sure they do a lot of jean length alterations and hem lines during the day. I'm not sure how perfect a suit alteration would be but it would be a reasonable job.

I'd also suggest looking in the local paper for alterations. I've noticed around my area a few houses with signs in the front yards for private tailoring. Mrs altomic went to one to get some custom sized cushion covers made and was very happy with the quality , and I was happy with the price.

Is it worth it? i mean, i usually spend money in alteration if the suit (or else) is expensive, or a good quality piece.
If not, i think it's more the damage than anything else.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I will look in to them.
