Matte Screen Overlay for Extremely Shiny 15.6" Laptop - Where to buy in Sydney CBD?

So the laptop I bought pops has the reflective power of 10 disco balls and I need to suppress it. Anyone know where you can get those matte screen covers in central Sydney? Are they all pretty much the same or are some really going to crud up the display?

Cheers guys

  • You can probably overlay a matte-finish screen protector on to your laptop. example of one

of course putting on a matte screen protector is like putting permanent gaussian blur filter onto your image, making it less sharp.

  • Yeah man, I'm that's what I'm after. Any idea where to get 'em in Sydney? My ususal go-to of OfficeWorks don't seem to stock them and I just need to go get one ASAP and try it out.

Worst case they're only like 10 bucks and I can just peel it off again if the image is compromised too much.

  • Damn. $80 to $200 for a bit of plastic which does the same thing as that which can be had for 8 bucks. Yeah, I guess it is better to order online and wait.

  • aliexpress AU$6.46 shipped

    or AU$6.19 for glossy finish

that was just from a quick search. there may be cheaper.

  • Glossy finish??

Wouldn't that completely defeat the point?

I guess it keeps the image clear and just protects the screen rather than modifying it to cut down on glare.

  • I notice a lot of the ones listed on eBay specify a model number that they're for. Surely 15.6 inches is 15.6 inches? Am I missing something? If I don't get one that exactly states it's for an Acer F15, will there be some unforeseen complications?

    • use a marker pen, ruler and cut with pair of scissors if doesn't fit…

      • Yeah, that'd probably work.

You'd think that 15.6" would be the same regardless of make though.

        • they generally are. 15.6" LCD displays are always made the same size, so when you overlay you actually stick on the LCD part, and not the bezel.

try, capitol square 340 george st Haymarket, there's about 10 little computer shops upstairs

  • Privacy filter at Officeworks is not the same thing - that will make your screen unviewable from an angle

    • Yeah, I think it's a bulkier thing that clips over the screen as opposed to just a sticker. But that's not what I'm after and still… $100+ bucks for that? Really?

Capitol Square is probably my last bet for sourcing one in bricks n mortar. Hope the markup isn't too massive. I checked MSY's site and they don't seem to have anything.

  • Wear sunglasses when using it?
