    Wow welcome to 1980!

    • +43

The 2017 has no players as they're on strike.

  • +4

I remember smacking the little ball bearing over the boundary so hard I broke the batsmans arm off. this game is great, on par with Mouse Trap I would say

    • +5

Man the new mousetrap is so SHITE.

This brings back memories… Might buy one to leave at work for some lunchtime fun. Have a few cricket tragics at work.

      • I bought the new mousetrap for my kids. The quality is very poor and I really hate playing it now.

        • +1

Lol same as operation and guess who garbage compared to the original :(

        • @stussy: The new operation, even michael J fox could ace it in one play through

        • +2

Cost cutting and also changing for the short attention span generation. Noticed that Hippo game had changed to.

Lucky we still have proper board games like Cranium (my all time favourite, cause its got a bit of everything) and Test Match.

        • +1

          @stussy:

Followed this thread and remembered the operation game I bought for my niece recently, what a piece of 'everybody gets a medal' generation shit.

    all action cricket

    Oxymoron

    • Welcome to poundtown- population: you.

  • +19

Does this version include pay disputes/negotiations between the ACA and CA?

    • +3

That's why they've dropped the price.

    • +4

or is this what CA mean't when they said they wanted to put more money into Grass Roots cricket?

  • +15

Keep in mind you get the dodgy bowler and batsman in this post 1980's set. Gone is the bowling channel, as the ball just lobs in little Johnny Howard style.

  • +1

Pretty sure the excellent original was given a Crown and Andrews make over for the worst. Not the same as the original as mentioned in a previous post last year. http://www.productreview.com.au/p/test-match.html?rating=1#r…

    • +15

      T20 ain't cricket…

    • +2

      Lol nice troll

    • In T20, bowlers may as well come out with a larger version of the ramp.

  • +10

Can I encourage people to avoid this set. The batter and bowlers are terrible.

Instead go to your local Salvos where I'm sure you'll find the original for less with batters that can hit and bowlers that can bowl.

    • Ahhh the old cost cutting trick.

      Thanks saved me the hassle.

      • +1

Not just cost cutting. Saved you heaps of headaches with the new design.

My BIL threw his out after one game. He couldn't believe how bad the batting and bowling action were.

And I can't believe how passionate I am about this game!

    • +1

      That's where I got one!

      • +3

        Me too!

First thing I did when I got home was glue that felt to a piece of thin MDF.

Mind you, not having any creases takes a little fun out of it. Nothing like bowling some googlys once in awhile. Keeps the batsmen honest.

        • Good idea. How do you fold it to put back in the box with the mdf?

        • +1

          @samia786:

I don’t fold it up. I tuck it away behind a bookshelf.

    • Btw the board games at salvos are so much better in quality than the new ones. I reckon the new ones don't last long enough end up at salvos lol.
Another better 2nd hand game is dominos and scrabble. The new plastic tiles are crap.

    • Never seen it at a Salvos… Or any op shop.

      • +1

If I see one I’ll send you a message.

  • Don't buy this! It's full of cheaters since the bowler is always chucking.

    • Where is it made?

      • +24

        Where is it made?

        The Muttiah Muralitharan Toy Factory

        • -2

          Racist
Slinga Malinga also chucks. Why are you only picking on Murali?

        • The Muttiah Muralitharan Toy Factory

This needs to be comment of the month

  • +1

I bought one yesterday. It looked promising but it's crap.

  • +4

Yell out the password SOLIDOAK for unbreakable stumps

  • +12

This new version is CRAP. I bought it for my son and it was totally unplayable. Returned it the next day. Nowhere near the quality of the origional one I had 30 years ago. Be warned, it is poorly made and no fun

    • +2

I'll second this opinion. It doesn't work. Get the old version - the bouncing ball edition is a dud.

  • I'm outraged. This is the first I've heard of this non-ramp version. It looks like the ramp has been dead for a while judging by some of the photos on Ebay. Are we talking more than 10 years?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Test-Match-Cricket-Board-Game-One…

I might have to pick up an original version before they turn into $500 items on Ebay.

    • Like I mentioned earlier, get to a Salvos or Vinnies and find the original.

It'll be cheaper, better and helping out a worthy cause.

      • +1

Might only have 7 fieldsmen though!

        • +2

          Then get 2 sets.

        • @braddsey:

What would I do with 14 fieldsmen? Have a rotation system?

        • +1

@strangeloops66: i'd be selecting them on form. There may be a couple that are green wicket specialists so you'd only be playing those guys in Sydney - horses for courses kind of selection policy.

        • @braddsey: You could ask Rod Marsh

        • Ahh, the joys of op-shopping…

  • +1

The poor OP probably can't believe the response to their post!

  • It's still fun - but not what it used to be

  • i remember this on display at some toy fair a long time ago.

  • Might be the only test match you see this summer, get on it

  • +1

I remember the Summer of '82 when my sister got the ball stuck up her nose.
    Good days.

  • "Test Match has been the best selling table top cricket game in Australia for over 25 years."

    • What competition did it have?
  • +1

I remember the very first edition of this - FREDDY TRUMAN'S TEST MATCH CRICKET

In the original version the bowler had a RAMP, and the batsman was string operated.

They later moved to the finger/thumb batsman, which meant you could hit the ball much harder - so hard in fact the fieldsmen often fell over attempting a catch

Why they ever got rid of the string operated batsman I don't know - i suspect because it was harder to hit the ball - you had to time your release.

But the string operated batsman was great as you basically couldnt hit in the air, and batting was about timing and skill, not just power.

V1.0 of the game was the best version they ever made. The bouncing ball bowler is ridiculous given the fielders can only catch balls on the ground.

Great game when it was first released, subsequent revisions have made it worse not better.

    • I remember the string! It was freaking hard to hit the ball.

But I guess that was the point. There’s got to be some challenge.

  • I was wanting this. How can I tell new version vs good version (second hand ofcourse ). ?

    • New version will be shrink wrapped.

  • Target having a run out of these?
