I'm pretty bummed out about this. I actually enjoyed the variety the songs that were played and how it rotates old and new ones every now and again.

Wait what? Pandora the whole of Pandora is closing? When? Why? I never heard about this until now. I use Pandora all the time, since I hate Spotifys Radio, doesn't compare to Pandora personally. So yeah, I'm same as you, pretty bummed to hear about that, I've found quite a few new artists through it that I actually enjoyed.
I thought they were actually growing, because didn't they buy rdio and is like on most devices?

I'm going to have to do some googling right now.

Pandora is a business that is so hopeless that you can pirate it's app and it's not only fully functional as a paid customer it has region locking removed so you get every regions music.

This is not supposed to happen on 100% server based system lel.

  • Could be licencing issue ? since its just AU / NZ.

I believe they just want to concentrate and grow their brand in the US.

  • I don't use it much, but I use it.

Sure I have Spotify and Tidal, both with extreme quality bitrates and the ability to choose any song I want, along with a Radio feature that purportedly does exactly the same thing as Pandora.

So why do I keep going back to Pandora with its crappy 128k bitrate? For me, the Music Genome Project (Pandora's core technology) works better at finding tracks I will like than anything else. Which is kind of a big deal.

To quote Yogi Berra, this is DeJaVu all over again. Pandora was available to Australian IP addresses up until 2007. In 2007 we were IP blocked and a USA VPN was required. A few years later it was made available to AU/NZ. And now here we are again.

So it's back to a VPN, which is barely an inconvenience for me, but the lady I work with is going to be spewing.

    • Absolutely agree the Music Genome Project algorithm has made Pandora an amazing product.

  • That's sad news….

    Let's run a vote then…

What's your most favourite music streaming provider?

  • I just installed it last night haha ah well all things shall pass in time

    • Google Play 4month free trial + Bonus Youtube Red. do it.

  • Have been told that it is a result of the major record labels seeking to renegotiate licensing fees. No doubt the major labels have now made it financially unviable for Pandora to operate it free model in Au/NZ. Given over 80% of users in Au/NZ use the service for free I suspect they have made the choice to conclude the service. Given they must still renegotiate licensing fees in the US they are likely to remain quiet about the issue.

Pandora closing down due to the fact that the Australian Government is cracking down on international companies refusing to pay taxes here and transfer all the money to US or Switzerland.

Dissapointed though, I like Pandora and was using it every day.
