No interest at all. Its 4g network is the worst ever. At home I can use wifi. Outside u can't even consume 10g data coz too slow

  • I just attempted to get this deal via live chat. The sales rep was firm to say only new numbers. So sad. He also added many other people have tried but unsuccessful

    • So I got my 24 month contract which is on its last legs changed to a $40 a month 15 gb sim only, and added my partner's number which we ported from Telstra for $30 a month - so $70 a month for 30 gb data with 2 active numbers. i also have a data sharing sim in a cellular ipad that will keep working. Music streaming was a bonus.

Now I need to find a new phone, as I've previously just gone 24 month phone plans…

Nope - scratch that. They went through everything, changed my number to the new plan, were about to port my partner's and then took a while to come back and say it was for new numbers only and she couldn't port hers. Typical Optus.

      • Really?!?! why new numbers only ?!?!
I activated my contract today via Chat, and they said they will port my Vodafone number to Optus no issue.
I've got the $130/month plan (that is currently on sale $100/month) for $75/month. The rep on chat activated it for me.
Hopefully, they will not come back with bad news next week.
It has been actually confirmed by other 2 chat operators I spoke with. Finger crossed.
$75 for 30 Gb Data, iPhone 7 plus 256Gb and unlimited international roaming plus all the extra is not a bad offer at all.

        • Is the vodafone number under your name already though?

        • @DrC: Why do people prefer postpaid to some of the better pre-paid deals. Is it just because you don't need to keep recharging every month yourself??

        • @steveclassy2: Which of these deals were you referring to? I'm not fussed either way - just $70 for a shared 30 gb and 2 sims is pretty good…

        • @DrC: umm I'm not that great but Vodafone have pre-paid $20 for $40 value (so half price) which is 35 days expiry compared to Optus/Telstra which is like 28 days

  • Can anyone please send me a reference nicer. Please

  • Is this offer only for sim only or can we add a phone plan with 25% off as a second service?

    • you can ask for any plan for 25%. I was offered the phone plan as well

  • +6

The 25% offer Optus is running is not advertised and is supposed to be only known for Optus staff as an under the table offer. To get the 25% off you need to have one existing postpaid service, and add another new postpaid service to the same account. The new number will get 25% off.

    Existing customers upgrading/reconracting don't get 25% off.

Existing customers porting out to another provider and porting back as new Optus customer don't get the 25% off.

This offer is very specific targeting families to get more of their families members to sign up another service with Optus, only the second service will get 25% off, and it has to be a new one.

This offer is not to be confused with the EOFY offer that expired last month which was 25% for all new customers.

If you want to get this offer make sure you let the rep know you are adding a new number to your account.

Hope this help clears out any questions or doubts.

    • But, is it still possible using an existing Non-Optus number for this Promotion ? (I mean, porting a number from another carrier)
Because that's what they did for me today via online chat.

      • Did you have to change the ported number to your name prior? I just find this a very annoying step.

        • It was under my name already, before porting it

      • Yes, as long as you are signing up for a second new service whether its a fresh number or a number you are porting all good.

        • I have a $20/m post paid tablet account with Optus, if I can bring my phone number to Optus (from Vodafone), will I be eligible?

        • +1

@mtfranklin: Sorry that doesn't count. Has to be a existing mobile phone plan or sim phone plan.

        • @landroverz7: is it possible to keep the number at all? I have premium no. that i don't want to lose. I am on $40 simonly plan currently and also have one other postpaid phone plan with optus. Also want to sign up for an NBN bundle.

        • @nkdangar: Yes you keep your numbers, thats fine. This offer is for existing customers adding new services under their name and account. In your case you get no discounts as both your numbers are on Optus plans already so you will be paying 2 x $40. Broadband (NBN, cable, adsl) are all fixed price of either the $60 or $80 plans, there are no more discounts when you combine your mobile and broadband.

    • Can we apply the student discount on top of the 25%? Also, does the 25% off apply to Data SIM only plans (eg the $70 for 100GB m2m plan)?

      • Sorry the answer is no for both. Data sims don't count and student discount can't be stacked. Only deal that can be stacked is the $130 plan that is currently $100, you can get 25% off the $100.

Got the Vodafone sim only for 40 bucks (student discount of 20% and double data promotion) with 18gb data the other week. The difference between optus and Vodafone is Vodafone actually works here lol

  • man $40 for 15gb is good on its own i recon,…

id like Netflix streaming thrown in but eh, i would be tempted to go 2 x 15gb for $60 but just seams like too much hassle and id rather see then new iphone 8 and note prices first. There are some good deal with those.

having said that, data pooling would be good if you had a ipad 10.5" or surface book pro, hmmmm

  • Deal is great, my other half has the Optus 15GB plan and paying $44/month, would really like to get this down to save a bit of $$$ (after all I am an "ozbargainer")…. I opted for Kogan 12 month prepaid for ~$250 (comes to $20/month with 10GB).. all I need which is great value….

  • seen on facebook bendigo telco data only plan 50GB for $60 no contract better for me as i use phone as hotspot and faster than nbn

  • have an iPad account with Optus, can I get iPhone 7 Plus 256GB for $75 per month with 30GB data as a add-on/second account?

    • yeah that should be fine. How much are you paying per month for your iPad? It might work out cheaper cancelling the iPad plan and getting a shared data SIM for a one off $5 payment and just share the 30GB between the 2 devices for $75 per month

      • true, but my iPad plan is just $40 per month with 2017 iPad 128GB with 10GB data and unmilited streaming for kids

      • I thought they stopped the 5 dollar data sims??

  • Just on Optus chat at the moment (I'm currently on their $40 plan), and told that I can only get the 25% off if the account I'm porting to Optus, is already under my name (with the current provider) - which it's not. Has anyone successfully got the 25% deal when porting, say, a spouse's account which is currently under the spouse's name?

I might just try back again later, and see if I get someone nicer on chat :)

    • Outcome??

    • Tried several times last night. They would not let me add the existing phone number of my partner to my account as it was under her name.

  • Great offer, I ported 2 numbers to Optus (not an existing customer), waiting on a third one.

$30, $40, $40 SIM plans discounted to an average of $30/11GB each for the fam.

To clarify the offer for everyone:
It's 25% off the plan cost for second, third, etc mobile plans that you have with Optus on the same account. Handset fees are not discounted.
You can have any plan as your first plan, and they can port any number from a different provider as long as it's also under your name.

You'd have to do that name change thing or churn over to Voda prepaid (or similar) before porting back if this isn't the case.

Edit: Also, discount for both the $40/15GB offer and the 25% off second service offer ends at the end of the month.

    • I'll try change the account name, first - with Vaya, waiting for online chat:

"Please wait for an agent. There are 78 visitor(s) waiting to be served."

      Ouch!

  • when does this offer ends? thanks

  • I had a couple of months left on a 24 month iphone 6S contract, which they let me waive to get me to sign up for a $40 sim for 15 gb (free music streaming, very useful when I go down the coast). I then changed my partner's Aldi telstra number to my name, ported it over and got the $135 MyPhone Plus with 30 gb (National Geographic, free TV data streaming, music streaming, Optus Sport, minimal international roaming data) for $75 with a 256 gb iphone 7.

I'm sure there is better around, but I'm pretty happy with that…45 gb of data per month with two phone numbers for $115 with a new iphone 7 256gb. One contract is 12 months, the iphone one is 24 which also suits me.

  • Is there any particular provider which would provide the fastest churn time, as I want to go from Vaya (under my wife's name), to some other provider (under my name), then I can go to Optus (under my name) (what a PITA)?

Or are they all pretty much the same?

    Thanks in advance.

    • we were told 2-3 business days for Aldi - took 1.

  • +1

Just moved over my old 60 for 40 plan with a $10 discount for broadband (with 10 GB data) to the new $40 with 15 GB for 12 moths plan, with a $10 discount
On top of that moved 3 accounts of my family over, all on $30 with 15 GB plan in to one data pool
Pretty sweet I reckon. The family was on the Vaya $26 tier. $4 more for a 11 GB gain each.

    • Pretty hard to go wrong with all that..nice work.

  • Has anyone had any success as a new customer? I do not have any Optus services but would love to switch if I could be part of this deal.

    • +1

I ported 2 numbers so far to Optus as a new customer, and got 25% off for the 2nd one.

You can use the $30/3GB SIM plan as your first, and get the discount on the $40/15GB plan, for example.

Optus has got data pool sharing so all the mobile plans on one account get to share their quota.

  • +1

Finally got it all done, after having to port to Aldi in order to change account to my name, then to Optus, today. I made the mistake of going to an Optus shop, thinking I could get the same plan, as earlier messages said about them having the 25% discount as well - but apparently it's only 12GB: can only get 15GB online. So did online chat and signed up.

Need to watch out that the discount is only for 12 months - when the contract ends, so does the discount.

Hope the SIM will arrive PDQ, as my wife's only on $5 credit (Aldi starter pack) until new SIM is activated.

    • In 12 months there is very likely to be a better plan around, whether it is with Optus or someone else. Don't get too comfortable with Optus, and be ready to port to another company again.

The Optus network has been good for me, but they are very much a company that does not reward loyalty, and their customer service is pathetic most of the time. Don't feel like you owe them anything!

  • Question for anyone signed up a contract with the 25% discount as an existing customer:

In case you make your contract through the Live chat, and you received the contract by email:

What does the emailed contract say at the "TOTAL minimum cost over contract term" ??
Does it tell you the full amount of your actual contract (With no discount) or should it report the actual discounted amount you are going to pay ?

Asking that as I've applied through Live chat, I've got confirmation from the rep for the 25% discount as I'm a current postpaid client. But the contract I've received by email report the full amount of the monthly fee.
I've signed up the the $130/ month that is currently $100/month, plus the 25% discount.
But the contract actually says the TOTAL minimum cost over contract term is $3312 !! that means fully $130/month and that is not even discounted as per current $100/month promotion ?!?!!
I've been told by other 3 reps I spoke to after I received the contract by email, that I don't have to worry as the discount will be applied from the 2nd month.. But what about the current $30 discount for everyone ?
I have chat transcripts for everything, of course, but I would like to know if anyone else noticed the same thing on his contract ?

EDIT: I've already received the new phone and the number has been ported from Vodafone. Everything in less than 2 days… so everything is working at the moment.
Just trying to understand why the contract doesn't report the actual discounted amount to be paid over the contract length.

  • is this the best deal Optus given ever?

  • Got! Iph 7 plus 256 Gb for $83/mnth with 30Gb of Data! Thanks

  • +1

I'm was on the 12 month, 10 GB plan for $40. I saw the 15 GB upgrade for $40 on the Optus site. I upgraded and they gave me an additional 15 GB on top of my 10 GB! This was unexpected because I thought I was going from 10 to 15 GB not 25 GB. Either way I'm happy.

    • Lucky! They said I could upgrade from my 12GB contract, as well, but for $90. Stuff that.

      • Bloody hell that's a lot. How much data would you be getting?

        • Sorry - one-off payment of $90, to upgrade to 15GB plan

    • +1

This is only for first month.
After that. Your data allowance will be back to normal. ie. 15GB

      • Cheers. I was wondering how long I'd keep it for.

  • UPDATE: $30 SIM plan (3GB) now discounted to $25 (3GB).

Possibly problematic condition: "not available in conjunction with other bonus data/discount offers".

New customers may be able to use this as their first (non-25%off plan), depending on how they interpret "discount offers" term. The 25% off offer would technically only apply to their 2nd, 3rd, etc.. plans.
