Looking to Upgrade to NBN. after Service Provider Suggestions

I am currently on Optus Broadband. And am looking to upgrade to NBN.

I know that NBN is available in my area, and has been for a few months now, but I have never looked into it till now.

To my knowledge, I am best selecting a provider who has an exhange closest to me? Am I right? If so, how do I go about finding that out?

If it helps, my postcode is 5061.

Thank you in advance!

Belong (a division Of Telstra) is a DO NOT TOUCH (imho)

I was them with ADSL asked to be swapped to NBN , rep told me after exchange work is done (completed 30th June)it would be about 24hrs max off air.
Well despite complaints, 29 phone calls and TIO intervention still not going on 13th June.
I rang iiNet told them of Belong situation and within less than 12 hours was up and running.

    my 20 cents worth.

    • Belong shares similar backhaul to Telstra (as in very little that actual telstra customers get, I think from memory its a few excess links telstra had spare but its no where near telstra end user quality), and I can assure you there is a HUGE difference between the two
Telstra are much better and have good dedicated links, and a POP in each State, Belong has a POP only in Sydney AFAIK and pings are 30ms off the bat if you're in Brisbane, no good for gaming

We went with AussieBroadband. Go to whirlpool forum and search. Great service, all local staff that speak English and are actually helpful and knowledgeable. They don't suffer from peak time slow downs. And at the moment they have a first month free thing so that if you don't like, you have no costs.

  • Aussie broadband has been good for the last couple weeks
I left optus cos of their pos customer service and had heaps of congestion or bandwidth issues

    • optus cant be that bad on nbn can they!??

I am trialling a few services on fttp at the moment and I will give my personal opinion on all of them
all 100/40 services and I am on the Kallangur POI / CSA

Aussiebroadband - Not the best by far but pretty good for non-gamers, suffered a lot of increased pings in Brisbane POP (maybe routing or something), Good customer service, speeds were okay 70/25 during peak, one month free no strings was good but certainly didn't impress me with their routing, it might be better today but for gaming / certain sites I found it a headache, overall not a bad choice and they seem fairly good, but honestly, higher pings did cause gaming to be slightly worse for me, competitive overwatch was playable but I found it was not as fluid as Buzz or Infinity, they have a POP in each state which is VERY important.

    www.aussiebroadband.com.au

Buzz Telco - Pretty good, Unlimited plans, definitely good customer service, Moystn has been more than helpful, offer no contract, 12 month contract and 24 month contract free modem inclusions, they have been relatively good, sub 5ms ping to local BNE Pop, SYD Pop yields about 10ms, very good for overwatch and speeds are around 94/35 over wireless, does tend to suffer minor peak drops to around 60-70 nightly but compared to Belong and Myrepublic, A FAR CRY better, they are also LOCAL and support is second to none, they also have POPs in each state, good routing and pings overall.

Infinity Telco - These guys are probably the pick of the bunch for FTTN, FTTP, like Buzz telco they go above and beyond, the Boss is very transpaerent and they offer many different plans to suit your speed / budget, their support is also local, they use Vocus Backhaul and have been good locally and internationally, speeds are around 95/35 over FTTP and have been good to deal with, they offer no contract terms as well, I like the fact they are easy to deal with, peak speeds have been rock solid with no minor dips, a new player but they are very good in terms of service, and putting their money where their mouth is, they also have a POP in each state, and seem to be doing well with Vocus Layer 2 / 3 services

    www.infinitytelco.com.au

Out of these three providers, they are all about the same in terms of customer service, short wait times, Buzz telco did take a while to setup and have stopped new subscribers for a short time but might be open again, Infinity can provision fttp within 24 hours and when online usually within the hour for FTTP

All providers I believe do FTTP, FTTN, HFC so they are all about equal in that regard

As far I can tell FTTP and FTTN are both great with the above providers, FTTN results will obviously vary based on your distance to the node, condition of the copper and your overall line gauge and copper quality

My top 3 picks for the NBN at the moment

    • Thanks for all the detail shawncro

    • Thanks for sharing your comments, mate.

Buzztelco….is the best…! I was with aussie broadband…they are worst even though they claim to have POP.

    • What's your beef with Aussie broadband

      • they were good for the trial
pings weren't as good as Buzz Or Infinity Telco

  • I am best selecting a provider who has an exhange closest to me?

Is that true? I thought all the nodes were shared by all RSPs and were owned and maintained by NBN Co? I thought the sync speed is independent of RSP, and only international speeds could really be affected by RSP.

  • Try FTTB from tpg. $60 per month unlimited

My download speed is 70 Mbps and upload 25Mbps.
Ping is about 17-30ish but sometimes I experienced HUGE lags.
But considering the price, it is worth it I think.

You can check the availability by yourself at their website.

    • Interesting. Was shopping around for NBN plans. Couldn't find $60 per month unlimited on TPG website. Did I miss out something ?

  • Aussie broadband all the way cant beat them on speed

  • Hi, has anyone tried Amaysim ? Would appreciate feedback and experience with them. Thanks.
