Things to do in Toronto and Vancouver

Hi everyone!

Taking a work trip to Canada at the end of the year and need some things to do in Toronto and Vancouver for a couple days each during some down time!

Any "hidden gems" that aren't easily found on trip advisor would be good, but all ideas are greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

  • How about a day skiing/visiting the mountains? Whistler is only ~2 hours. Rent a car or you can get a bus there.

    • Ah didn't realise it was so close! Will probably give this a go, thanks

    Visit Niagra Falls from Toronto

Hire a pushy and spend a day in each having a casual ride around. Great to see things up close yet beats walking.

    • Take note it's the end of the year :) It'll be winter, probably a bit cold and icy for that!

Vancouver, drink at the 10,000 local breweries

  • In Toronto I had pre-purchased the Toronto Pass before travel. Prices for these increase August 1 in case you are interested.

    • Thanks for the info re. price increase!

  • When I last went to Vancouver, there was this Vietnamese restaurant right down the road from our AirBnB. Ive been dreaming about their pho and banh Bo hueh. Best I've ever eastern. I'm try and find the name and address

    • Always keen on some good Vietnamese food, if you think of the name let us know! Ta

  • I'm a former Torontonian and would recommend lots of the indoor attractions in winter like the CN Tower, Art Gallery, Aquarium, museums, major league sports like hockey at the indoor sport stadiums. Toronto has a really lively music and theatre scene, great Christmas Market (mid Nov. to Christmas from memory), the St Lawrence Market, and there are walking tours and night tours. It's also great to have a look at all the Christmas lights in the city and some of the posher neighbourhoods. Nearby to Toronto are Niagara on the Lake and Niagara Falls (90 minutes drive), Ottawa and Montreal (each about 4-5 hours drive, or frequent bus and rail services) Ottawa and Montreal are generally colder and snowier than Toronto. Ottawa has the best of the national collections in some amazing museums and Montreal's old quarter is a really great, plus it is fun to experience that hit of French culture in North America. Check out the Toronto Sun and Toronto Star online to get a flavour of the place.

    • Spot on! I lived in Toronto for 9 months and loved it - super lively and multicultural place so definitely look up what's on. For Aussies Toronto is pretty cold from Nov onwards so walking around isn't that much fun

Toronto has amazing food too if you're into cheap cheerful & genuine ethnic food. I wrote them up some time ago when I left http://ayearindarwin.blogspot.com.au/2017/03/my-favourite-to…

  • I was wondering how your trip had gone?
We're looking to do Whistler and other parts of Canada next Jan and would love to know what you found worth it and what was a waste.
