Obtaining The $129 Flight Credit from Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has struggled to get the Virgin flight credit?

I got the card in April and spent the required amount, but forgot to claim the voucher.
I rang up recently and I was told that I have not met the criteria, specifically I need to have made a retail purchase to obtain the credit. I promptly made a purchase on ebay and used paypal to pay as you do.

Then my application for flight credit was rejected again, with the reason that paypal is not a retail transaction?
Does anyone have any idea what a retail transaction would be? Is this limited to in-store purchases (thereby excluding online purchases).

The terms and conditions (linked below) only state "eligible transaction" and not "retail transaction". I can't make a purchase with the card in person as I stupidly and preemptively cut the card up - ready to cancel once I received the voucher.

Any ideas?

  • Why don't you call them and ask what a retail transaction is defined as?

Do you still have the card pieces? Could you put the details into a Apple/Google/Samsung Pay app and use it that way?
