  • Hi OP, can you explain how you would use this IRL? I only recently started purchasing cryptocurrency.

      Howdy Liongonk!

There's two ways people typically use these,

The foremost used as a Point-of-Sale, and secondarily as cold storage.

People who readily spend coins IRL generally use a crypto wallet on their phone (I personally use Mycelium - coincidently BITNFC.org is a NFC crypto-wallet as well). What the tags excel in is providing a POS - the tags can be encoded with your public key and subsequently your customer can just tap the merchant sign (or the keytag, card or coin) and it will automatically boot in the wallet and enter the public address. All they have to do is enter amount and send. If they're a returning customer, just give them a keytag. Streamlines the whole process - they don't even have to be there to pay.

Re: Cold storage, many people decide to keep wallets offline (notably, I would always suggest backing up keys this way) - same principle here, encode a key and leave it for a rainy day.

Alternatively, if your looking for a geeky gift - I've often loaded up the epoxy coins with some crypto. Depending on the markets; it can be a really, really, really good gift ;P

As a side note, whilst previously this technology was only available to about 51% (Android, Microsoft) of the Australian market, after years Apple has finally opened up the capabilities in iOS11 (dev kit in beta currently, but this is massive news for NFC industries) - soon most australians will be able to use NFC tech.

      Hope that helps,
Any questions please feel free to ask :)
