Warranty Repairs Taking a Long Time with Shopping Square

Hi Ozbargain community

I purchased a grey import Samsung S7 Edge from Shopping Square last year and it started getting translucent horizontal lines on the screen. I sent it back to Shopping Square in late May this year to get it repaired under warranty.

I am still waiting for it to come back to me. I didn't think it would take this long and was hoping to get it back before my holiday in mid August. Their communication is really poor as well and I've been struggling to get updates through their website communication system.

Firstly, I acknowledge it is my own fault for buying a grey import and buying from Shopping Square. After this experience, I will definitely fork out a bit more for Australian stock.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to try and fast track the process? I really want it before I fly out. Had no idea it would take this long.

Thanks

I know a lot of people don't like iPhones and that is fine, but this is one of the main reasons I buy iPhones locally. If it breaks I get a replacement the next day from the Apple store - no screwing around with repairs. I know you pay a lot of money for these phones but given how much we all use our smart phones these days, I think they are worth the added expense.

It's got nothing to do with iPhones but the fact he purchased it online from the grey market.

It's the risk you take by purchasing grey market.

I admit Apple has great customer service, but unfortunately they don't sell any Android phones. Samsung as a reasonable turn around time in Australia.

      • Yes definitely not buying a grey import phone again. The saving isn't worth being without your phone for so long.

  • This is my experience with Samsung S7 edge which I bought from SS as well. The problem with my S7 edge was that it stopped working whenever there was an update and the phone restarted frequently whenever I viewed the photos on WeChat. The latter issue may have to do with the WeChat app. It was lucky that there is a Samsung support center at Homebush, Sydney and a lad was very helpful to get the phone started, update the firmware etc. The lad said that the phone was a grey import and there was only limited support from local Samsung. The phone was brought in from Asia and the firmware came from Asia server (not always from China) rather than Australia. Anyway talk to them and they might be able to help. Since then I put my "working phone" on market.

  • FYI It is cheaper to replace the S7, S7 edge, S8 … broken screen from Sydney Samsung support center at Homebush, Sydney than other phone repairers. Only S7 and above. I am talking almost 1/2 the price.
