Temporary Car Insurance for Under 21 Green P

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has bought car insurance for like 2 weeks as an Under 21, as I have friends coming over from overseas and my family owns a 7 seater car, but i personally dont have car insurance on it, as i know adding my name onto the current NRMA one will be quite expensive. Any suggestions?

With NRMA, you're covered for anyone that drives your car!

In my own experience, getting my name added would've doubled the premium with the age excess only being halved. $850 for comprehensive + $600 excess + $1500 age excess would've turned into $1500 comprehensive + $600 excess + $500 or $600 age excess. Not worth it really, especially when you're covered anyway.

This must be a troll, no one on Ozbargain cares about insurance before driving a car!

      • Were you expecting a thread asking about cheapest way to get the car repaired after the accident?

        • cyclists!

  • You could also try getting a cover note. Normally it's only for 7 days, so you would need 2 cover notes (probably from 2 different companies). You would need to consider the premium + excess, if you needed to make a claim.

Honestly though, under 21 driver from overseas … you're asking for trouble. There's a reason why under 21s are expensive to insure. Someone from overseas (or even another state) is a more risky proposition.

    • I don't think OP is from overseas, only that he has friends coming from overseas.

      • I don't think I suggested the OP was from overseas.

        • I don't think OP is suggesting that he insure his overseas friends, but rather insure himself and drive his friends around.

        • @chobani4lyf:

Maybe … i read it differently though.

    • You can no longer get cover notes in Australia.

      • It's called 'unpaid new business'. Just select the bpay option when you do an online quote. I think you have 7 days to pay. If you don't pay the premium by the due date, the policy lapses.

Make sure the start date on the policy is correct.

  • I doubt you can.

I'd clarify with NRMA if they drove , would they be insured ? If your parents have NRMA then the excesses for you would be massive but say you run into a new BMW you'd be covered(again read your pds and check).

I DOUBT any company would provide insurance for a under 21 yo from overseas.

  • Sorry for the misunderstanding. But I am Under 21 and driving my parents car
