Cheap Media Player

Hi im looking to buy a good cheap media player for the kids. Ive way too many dvds strewn everywhere and i just want a basic player that i can hook up to a basic tv(RGB connection).Ive got an Xtreamer for myself thats HD and plays everything but not looking for anything that comes even close. Just as long as its half decent and i can hook up a portable HDD to it and its CHEAP. Shop or website, dosnt matter. Any ideas?

    How cheap is cheap?

    Astone AP-110D $79
Full HD — wide format support. Also supports networking either via LAN or Wifi. 2 USB ports. Network streaming / Samba shares using upgraded firmware.

Generic Media Player (+ 4 GB Sandisk USB flash stick Bundle) $45
720p only — somewhat limited format support. Has a card reader.

Astone basic Media Gear EP-01 $45
720p maximum, limited format support (but supports MKV, H.264 at or under 1024x768 resolution) and has card reader.

WDTV Mini $59 from Dick Smith.
Also seen this cheaper at Macquarie shopping center Dick smith for only $46.
Not full HD — upscaling only. Limited format support.

In terms of value the AP-110D is the best choice but if its overkill then perhaps go with the Astone EP-01.

    • Thanks heaps for your efforts Scrimshaw. The EP-01 fulfills all my needs and is a good price but the shipping to Brissie is $17!! I wanna keep this as cheap as i can(sub $40) so i might have to keep looking me thinks ;)

  • Cheap is:
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.22081

I bought it about a year ago when paypal was giving the $20 cashback, best thing I've purchased online.
Only qualms is that it doesn't support .mkv files, 2.1 stereo and it has 1 USB port opposed to 2 as advertised. But hey, for about $30, you can't really complain.

There are some for approx $25 on DX which are allegedly also 720p.

edit: It supports my 3.5" 1TB external HDD/powersupply no problems.

    • Now this looks like a winner Kego! Great price, $32!, and free shipping too from HK! Read all the customer reviews and they are all happy with it too. Hmmm…

      • Don't forget to buy a travel adapter to convert the chinese to Aussie power plug.

  • Ooh never thought of that! Dosnt look like an aussie plug does it?! Dont suppose i could ask them to put one on :/ Ive got an adapter lyin around here somewhere. Just means i gotta find it lol Gonna hold off till early next week just in case i find anything better/cheaper altho think i may have found it :)
