Need Advice for Panasonic 75" 4K TV TH-75EX780A

Hi Ozbargain Community,

I am thinking of buying a 75 inch Ultra HD 4k TV. I am not a tech expert and I would appreciate if anyone has any technical feedback/comments/advice regarding Panasonic's 75 Inch 4K TV TH-75EX780A. This TV is currently selling around the $5,000, which really is my max budget too. Sony 8500E series is the closest in terms of price, however, the matt screen display wasn't very impressive when compared to the crispy Panasonic display.

I would appreciate any advice on this TV. And in case anyone wants to know about my usage type, I will be using the TV for watching TV shows, sports and movies.

Make sure you compliment the TV with a highly overpriced HDMI cable…

  • My TV is larger than yours.
It's only 55 inches… but I just sit closer and it instantly becomes an 80 inch!!

Same thing goes to VR, that is a bloodly 120"

Wrong forum bro.. this is Ozbargain where we recommend you go 55" as the biggest and 65" only if you really have to. 75" is Ozballers territory aka you buy us all a 55" first. Try whirlpool I hear they like 85" over there.

    • Thanks mate. I will definitely try Whirlpool.

      • No problem after whirlpool if you still need more information Reddit is a pretty good source of second hand information. Just type in the model number and see what others have said. That or check their tv subreddit.

  • Purely looking at the stats I'd say the following

    • Panel is 200Hz which can be good for Sports but some people are sensitive to this stuff and may make other TV shows feel like you are having a stroke and everyone is moving too fast… but not any faster… Normally a setting to turn this effect down though
    • Speakers are laughably low powered at 10W each. You are going to want to get yourself a serious sound system.
    • Holy balls this thing is heavy! 54Kg without stand if you plan to wall mount it. 62.5kg with the stand. Bonus feature, if anyone steals it you only need to go to your local ER and search for a person dressed in a hoodie with blown vertebrae
    • Freeview if implemented well is pretty awesome. No need for all the separate apps and can be accessed right from normal TV. Implemented badly and it's a slow pig that will load a minute after you pressed the button and giving you enough time to have assumed it just doesn't work and moved on.
    • HDR should look good if you have any 4K Blu-Rays. Not really had much eyes on time with HDR TV's and many cheaper TV's do this bullshit thing where they allow the TV to read HDR and will tell you it's playing HDR but don't have a HDR panel so it's all pretty pointless.

I would also highly recommend you get some Calibration Images and guides on how to use them as these things normally come with stupidly high brightness, colours and contrast so they look awesome in store but when you get it home you will find the colours all blown out and extended use will give your retinas a tan.

Ohh and also fair warning, prepare for Standard Def TV to look like absolute shit. 576i really doesn't scale up really well to UHD resolutions

  • Just got my 65EX780A delivered and no regrets, best non-OLED TV IMHO.
Built-in speaker is not very good, but that's not important as I use soundbar.
It is indeed heavy, 40KG for the 65 inch version. Need to be careful handling and assembling the base.

  • Can't find a Panasonic TH-75EX780A 75 Inch anywhere?
