Old Yamaha iPod/iPhone 30 Pin Dock. How Can I Use It Now?

I bought a iphone 4 dock, the Yamaha PDX-30 back in 2010 for $100, which was a great price at that time but now its of little use and is collecting dust.

It was a good speaker and I'm thinking there should be a way I could use this with other phones or with my PC. I have heard about A2DP Bluetooth receivers but wasn't sure which one would be the best. Also, is there any way for it to be connected to Wi-Fi? It doesn't have any ports other than the ipod/iphone dock

Suggestions?

    For use with your pc-
    30pin to 3.5mm cable.

Aliexpress sells them for ~$2 delivered

Is the quality as cheap as the price?

reveiews for them say they work.

        • I think they're slightly better than the cassette-to-aux connectors, but still pretty crappy.
          But they work.

You can get 30pin to lightning and 30pin to micro-usb adapters and other sorts as well so you can probably use it with a current phone.
Search ebay for 30pin adapter and see what comes up!

Those bluetooth connectors are pretty good (as good as anything else with Bluetooth). i have a few in my place, on old Logitech speaker sets. You can really easily connect via bluetooth but obviously you need to be in range etc etc.

    Something like this

I have also read reviews where people have connected Chromecasts (using HDMI adaptors i think) to old stereos, so they essentially have wifi

  • You may be able to purchase a 30 pin female to USB and connect a USB WiFi adaptor or Bluetooth adaptor for wireless use.
You would however have to consider if the adaptor will power the adaptor.

You may also consider not investing money into making that dinosaur compatible, and purchase a modern unit with wireless and or USB connectivity.

Edit: The solution posted above at $7.60 may be your best option..

  • Thanks for the replies. Not trying to spend more than $10, the A2DP Bluetooth receiver and the 30 Pon to 3.5mm plug seems to be the way to go. Chrome cast also sounds interesting to bring Wi-Fi but I don't think its $40 to revive.

    • You can also try to find out how to repair the dock by searching online. The model you have might have a common fault, if you look it up.

I run an old iPhone logged into my iTunes account in my obsolete dock.
Works good for tunein radio Apple Music YouTube etc
I just leave it in the dock

  • Hi mtfranklin. I'm in the same boat as you. Did you find a solution and if so can you send me a link to what you purchased? I'm only asking because I have a receiver that works on my Bose and Logitech, but not the PDX-30 Much appreciated

Hi Goldberg, placed an order for the A2DP bluetooth receiver last week on eBay, haven't received it yet. it costs about $8

      • Thanks heaps 👍

      • Keen to know how you went with yours? I ordered two different types from two different sellers on eBay and neither work on my Yamaha, only my Bose and Logitech units.

        • worked on my brother's Logitech unit but doesn't work on Yamaha.

        • @mtfranklin:
Really annoying hey, Yammys now a boat anchor 😩

        • @Goldberg: on the bright side, my old iPod is now worth more it seems. planning to sell them together on gumtree.
