Recommend Me a 3DS Title and Amiibo

My PlayStation Vita died, while being very sad, it has forced me to open up my New 2DS and play Luigi's Mansion 2. I want to take advantage of the N2DS' features, so what's a good 3DS Amiibo featured title, and which Amiibo should I yoink along with it?

I do currently own Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer & Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. which are Amiibo titles, but again, not sure on what my first Amiibo should be, and what ones work with what games and so on.

While I am after Amiibo-ness, my 3DS collection is very limited, so if there's any exclusive MUST HAVE 3DS games you think I should not miss out on, mention away!~

    Must have games:
    Animal crossing new leaf
Pokémon Omega ruby or alpha sapphire
    Shovel knight
    Fantasy life
    Mariokart
    Mario maker

As for amiibos, I would just buy the ones you like.

Probably the new Metroid coming on 15/9. I love the look of this amiibo.

  • If you've got New Leaf, better off grabbing a set of amiibo cards for that much cheaper, but any Animal Crossing amiibo (and some others) will work with New Leaf.

There's also the free-to-play (amiibo required) game Mini Mario & Friends on the eShop.

Check Nintendo's compatibility page for more. Be prepared for most amiibo interactions to be very lame.

  • If you like puzzle games, try BoxBoy! I started playing it based on a recommendation and enjoyed it a lot more then I thought I would. Simple looking but fun game. Levels are short and it's easy to play in short bursts.

Also New Super Mario Bros. 2 if you liked the original on the DS or are a fan of the the platform style Mario games.

My favourite games are the Zero Escape series.

Start with 999 (9 persons, 9 hours, 9 doors) which is a DS game.
Then VLR (Virtue's Last Reward) then ZTD (Zero Time Dilemma).

999 and VLR are rare and hard to find, but you can buy VLR on the eShop. ZTD can't be bought physically (unless you have a US system) so has to be bought on the eShop. If you are into collecting rare games, they are definitely must-owns.

They have an absolutely mind-blowing story (like Memento, but better) and really hard puzzles. Coming from Vita, you might feel like 3DS games are all childish. Not the Zero Escape series. The puzzles are HARD even for adults (not that you would let a child anywhere near the games if you didn't want them to have nightmares). If you have a look on Metacritic you'll see all three games are rated very highly on best 3DS/DS games of all time.

I also really like VVVVVV which is a little platformer eShop title. It has a super original mechanic and the puzzles are just amazing.

    1. Super smash bros.
Huge collection of amiibo's available and you can pretty much just buy the character you would be using the most.

    2. Fantasy Life
Sunk wayyy too much hours into this one

    3. Bravely Default
      Awesome RPG

    4. LoZ: Ocarina of Time, Link Between Worlds, Majora's Mask.
You can't go wrong with Zelda games! (Apart from Triforce Heroes….)

Monster Hunter Generations! The game STILL has an active community a year later, and is, by far, my favourite 3DS game.
