  • today must be hdd day
    so many deals on hdds
yet still none of them are as enticing as the ones pricesengine did. ud imagine with the amount of competition out now…

    • yeah I still remember missing out on those 7200rpm 3.5" drives when their website's stocking system wasn't working out

        …deal hijack

        • but which is better? the mln deal or the centrecom one?

          • +3

@polkadots610: Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but the MLN deal is only available to Victorians (there was a previous Seagate 500gb deal which had OzBargainers attempting to price match with Officeworks all over the country. Some were successful in QLD, but the majority of NSW Officeworks refused to price match).

Centrecom charges $8-9 shipping, so is more expensive (total of $75 or so).

Drive-wise, The G2 has some power-saving feature, but I haven't read any reports implying that it interferes with its performance.

The Seagate can be "upgraded" to USB 3.0 or e-sata by purchasing additional cables that replace the default one. If your computer has either of those, it could be beneficial in giving you faster transfer rates. However, I don't see a worldwide move to usb 3.0 in the near future…

Another point to be made is that I think the Seagate enclosure can be cracked open to reveal a regular hdd with sata connection. The G2 on the other hand, has a controller attached, and I do not know whether it can be removed.

EDIT: It seems like MLN does have shipping? $9 for this drive, though I cbb registering an account, so could someone confirm that it's Australia-wide? Cheers

            • @illusionarybreeze: This deal is available Australia wide,
              $9 shipping for 1-3 units
so if you buy 1 unit its $9, if you buy 2 units its $9 and 3 units its still $9.
              4 units will cost $18, 5 units $18, and 6 units will cost $18
and so on, you guys get the idea,
more shipments are arriving every 2-3 days as stock is running out, we have thousands on order so should be plenty for everyone, if we do run out, we will offer the same spec or better hard drive for the same price during the life of our catalogue, where possible.
              enjoy guys
              :)
I am not really following this thread as it was not listed by me, but will try to remember to visit when possible, thanks for the support, if you have questions about stock availability or product specs please ask the MLN store directly or via the MLN webite.
              thank you

    • Still, it's a good price compared to everywhere else, especially this particular Seagate model.

      Start own thread?

    • good price, i ordered 2, you should start your own thread too…

    • pricematched this at OW, $62.70 :D

      • How do I go about getting it price-matched? Print out the webpage and show it to OW?

        • well thats what i did, though he checked the website instore to see that it was valid and since the centrecom deal has ended you're out of luck unfortunately.

          • @fsjk85: Yeah. Real unlucky! Was planning to get it today.. Luckily there are still a few other HDD options. Phew.

edit: Got the 640gb acer one in the end.

  • BTW sorry for off topic here… I have 2 same brand HDD when plug in my comp it can only detect 1 drive. Is there any software that able to make it readable to both HD with the same brand/size?

    • ur pc should be able to pick them both up, no need for additional software, go into disk manageement to see if the drive is there, maybe it has unallocated space and you need to initialize it ?

if it doesnt show up there, then you might want to try another usb port and/or cable.

ive got 2 x 7port usb hubs and the pc can pick up anything i connect to it.

  • i want that seagate from centrecom but they dont tell you the shipping price to brisbane

    • Nationwide AustPost satchel price of $9

  • I clicked the link for this deal and there's no 2.5" external drive there. Has this expired?

  • will you able to get the drive out and use it in PS3/notebook?

  • hahaha funny how centrecom comments on this deal..
+1 to MLN with all the HDD deals!! no surcharge!

  • Don't know if anyone is still interested but I went into the Richmond store today and they had heaps of these! I had called before I went and they said they had "plenty" and I thought maybe 50 or so but I didn't realize just how many they had…
It was a massive stack of G2's.

I picked one up along with the $77 Iomega 1TB and I must say, that Youtube video posted previously is gold!
