I use Synology, but it's not really for non technical people.

Wouldn't recommend a RAID 0 configuration - if one disk fails you lost all your data.

Use RAID 1 for a 2xDisk setup for redundancy.

    • so I'm looking at 4 bay or something better.. starting to get big :(

  • I would crunch some numbers on the speed of your network, I doubt you would see any benefits running a NAS on Raid 0 with SSDs.

    • was going to put the 7k1tb drives in NAS, instead of inside my laptop

  • Unless you're planning on 10gbps networking, a single SSD will easily saturate your network connection. What is this for?

    • woops, I though I hit reply

  • compiling and storage for vm

I have a 950, and 850 pros with a 2TB raid 0 on old spin disk, but I think the 2 mechanical drives are using more power than what the laptop can give when I start daisy chaining drives from usb 3.

so I was going to replace them with 2 bunky SSDs to fill out the laptop with solidatate for lower power consumption

  • would it be bad to mix 2 seagate momentus xt 500gb sshd and 2 hitachi 7k 1tb drives?

will that let me raid 1 at 1TB, or does it go with the lowest.. haven't done raid Arrays in ages… I think I need to go read again

I pulled the old drives out of my older laptop too
