  • Nice price. I think this is the cheapest it's been in Australia since this deal in April - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/300679

  • +1

Any reason to get this now that the Oculus is so much cheaper? I'm only dreaming about VR, and not biased between the two, so I'm legitimately just curious.

    • +3

At $500 cheaper, you'd be crazy not to go for the Oculus + Touch combo.

      • That's what I thought. I don't know anything about Vive extras but I know the Oculus comes with the xbox one controller which is decent extra value.

I also know how many Gear VR units have gone out with phones, I got one and love it, and the oculus partnership I assume means I'm in that ecosystem and might be able to play some games with friends with a full Oculus. Developers will move to the bigger platform.

I sincerely hope that HTC Vive will drop in prices or that the Vive 2 will bring big improvements that keep competition alive

        • Oculus no longer comes with the xbox one controller.

        • +1

Just an FYI, the latest Oculus bundles no longer include an xbox one controller. If you have a gaming PC you should totally jump on board though, it's indescribable amounts of awesome.

Surely Vive will drop their price to compete, time will tell, and I doubt you will see an Oculus 2/Vive 2 until at least 2019.

        • @Hayness:

Word from Vive states they wont be competing with oculus summer of rift limited promo pricing.

  • These things were made for porn. On a side note, remind me not to buy a 2nd hand model in 10 years time.

    • +2

Well I'd assume they'd pretty much be a collectors item in 10 years. Tech moves crazy fast

And unless you're into anime the pron ain't that great, or maybe I just haven't found the right content

      • I just got a PS3 recently and finished Unchartered (circa 2007). Yes, this old man is ten years behind the curve (and loving it!).

Anime porn? - LOL. Not really my thing but can't say I've watched it before.
I can envision a huge untapped market for VR porn. I'm sure the big corporations are already strategising some killer new product platform that will make them billions. Sex sells.
