I'm currently studying Certificate 3 in Surveying and Spatial Information and really enjoying it. Are there any surveyors around here? How did you get your start? Do you enjoy your work? Should i do a Cert IV after this and then get a job or try to get an assistant job now? Looking for ideas as jobs in my area are almost non existent (Northern NSW) and i may have to move away.
Not a trained surveyor - but I do a lot of surveying in my job. I have a diverse background in mining, sales, defence force and environmental science, now working as a freshwater hydrographer.
A great field to be in, especially if you like outdoors work - Start looking for work as an assistant now, if you are lucky and find something then your employer may support your further education.
Be prepared to move - sometimes the job you want isn't where you are. I have lived in 5 states over 25 years.
