Office Coffee Machines - What Do You Have and Is It Drinkable?

The company I work for has a number of office locations. We're looking for automatic coffee machines that are able to dispense decent coffees. Manual machines are not an option due to the hassle. :)

I'm looking for feedback on vendors so any assistance with the following information would be great:

  1. Number of staff in your office
  2. Brand and model (if known) of the coffee machine
  3. Rating out of 10 for the coffee
  4. Vendor (if known)

Thanks

I charge for my time, fill out your own survey

  • Nespresso coffee pods and milk frother

Just go with Nespresso. If it's good enough for George Clooney, surely it's good enough for your professional services firm.

    • +1

It's also good enough for almost all 5 star restaurants who could be using something else.

      • *should be using something else

    1. 12 but only 4 coffee drinkers
    2. espresso pod machine from IGA ($39.95 on special ) and Aldi milk frother
    3. 7/10
    4. Pods from Coles or IGA (Vittoria)

capsules suck. get an automatic espresso machine with a built in milk pourer. one button short blacks or cappuccinos. give your employees better coffee and make them think you care, while preventing them from loitering around the coffee machine too long

some of them may say that capsules are better, and ask why you would get a regular old espresso machine. fire those people

    • preventing them from loitering around the coffee machine too long

      You'd be a fun employer.

So you're going to fill your offices with coffee machines based on a few responses to a survey on ozbargain? Why not do some actual market research yourself!!

Doesn't sound very "professional" to me…

So you're going to fill your offices with coffee machines based on a few responses to a survey on ozbargain?

      No that was your assumption.

After you made your assumption you went on to ridicule OP as though your imaginary assumption was reality.

      • -1

In the absence of the OP explicitly stating it, I think it's a very safe assumption that this is what will happen. If not, what is the actual point of this survey?

Regarding the ridicule, like many other comments have noted, this is a lazy and ineffective way to get some decent feedback. The ridicule is warranted.

The professional services company I work for has a number of office locations.

There's plenty of companies that will provider a fully maintained machine, restock coffee/milk, clean, etc

I doubt you want a DIY solution, where you have to make someone responsible for cleaning the coffee machine or worse, the coffee machine is just a giant fungus trap.

Failing that, pods + instant coffee are your only options.

Office Coffee Machines - What Do You Have and Is It Drinkable?

Of course our machine is not drinkable (or edible) but the coffee it makes is passable. 😉

Do your own research, call up a couple of vendors, try out the coffee at the shop. Your boss probably gave you the job of finding the company coffee machines and you are palming the task off to ozbargainers. So what is the company paying you for??? If I find out my staff is asking people on the internet for help on his assignment, I will fire his ass straight away.

      Damn … harsh, man, harsh…

      • +3

Sorry it is a little harsh, I'll rephrase. Asking for opinions or assistance is fine. But if it looks like the task is being outsourced entirely to someone else. Then its a no-no.

        • Selecting a coffee machine is hardly a revenue making exercise … In this case, I'd probably give the employee points for trying to out source the work, but fire his ass for failing miserably at it.

          How so?

          @Stix:

It is the way you phrase your inquiry. It appears to be like survey and you may compile the results to present to your boss as your own research. It will be nice if you threw in a few large vendor names, state what you have found out so far and ask the community for opinions. Along the way, it will be natural that people will recommend other brands that is not part of your list with their office experience of the machines. That way, you may get a more positive result from the post.

        • @KaTst3R:

No problem - certainly wasn't the intention. :)

OK Grandma, your right, they should have stuck to using the telephone and physically going to shops instead of using the internet.

Or billed the company for a 1 week junket visiting their favorite coffee shops around the world to see what the best options were.

I company I used to work for had high end Lavazza capsule coffee makers from https://www.bluepod.com.au

The coffee was pretty good but as you'd expect the consumables were very expensive (can't remember exactly but it was about $1 per pod). The idea was to let the staff trial it and then pay for their own coffee, but it didn't work because the staff who didn't really care about coffee like me didn't want to pay anything, and the staff that did care wanted to go to the local cafe instead.

Eventually the company returned all the machines and replaced them with consumer grade Saeco machines bought outright for about $1.5k each, which they paid someone to periodically come out and service.

    • Thanks - great feedback. 👍🏻

5 of us use a coffee machine one of the guys used to have at home..
we have a 10 year old Saeco Royal.. makes a great coffee.. easy to maintain..(clean once a week)

-beans and water go in the top
    -built in grinder.
-can froth milk but no one can be bothered monkeying around with cleaning the setup..
-cheaper than pods this week Woollies has Lavazza is $15 a kilo.. at 12g per coffee that's 18c per coffee
-way less waste than those pods going to landfill
    -tastes better than pods(stronger)

My SIL just sold her business after many years in it.

She had all women (not sexist, that is just the makeup) but number not sure. Quite large for a book-keeping small business.. They purchased or leased a number of machines over the business life and they always got broken by staff and/or were expensive and difficult to maintain.

We Are talking Melbourne - and a wide range of tastes but all discerning in their need for the right coffee, chocolate, chai etc. you can also just go hot water.

In the last 4/5 years - maybe even more, they bOught an Aldi coffee machine for $89.99 - the esrlier of the ALDI WITH AN OPTION OF FROTHING attached to machine.

After an experimental period of which capsules to get, they provided a range to suit everyone - including the other options in that range of capsules.

There were no staff complaints and no breakages for a long time. It was so simple to use and they did use it. My SIL and HUBBIe ensured the cleaning and descaling was done regularly and it is easy.

If there was ever an issue, it was cheap enough to replace. i don't think they did, but could not be sure. The later models seperate the frother and coffee machine. That frother is a pain as we had one. Too small a quantity and needs to be cleaned after each use. Not going to happen in an office.

Do a small test run (a pilot). If it is not working for you, take it back within the warranty period. Money back no questions asked.

For really large, you could then purchase more than one. They are simple to use.

  • fwiw there are businesses that offer exactly this as a service

they will deliver, setup and regularly visit site to maintain fully automatic coffee machines - I have no idea what this would cost, but obviously the more bigger machines, the better

  • We use saeco royal with coffee subscription from Three thousand thieves. I highly recommend the subscription as you get different coffee beans from different roasters every week.
