Wedding Gift - Travel - ~$1,000

Hey guys,

My brother just got married and we have been struggling to come up with a fantastic wedding gift for the newly weds. So we have come to the conclusion that a travel voucher (around $1,000) would be the best option.

Is anyone on here aware of any great value ideas for that sort of money? Would like to stretch the $1k as far as possible for them.

Alternatively, what are some amazing wedding gifts that you have heard of or received?

Keen to here everyone's opinion.

dammit! you beat me to it again!! haha

Nothing better than cash - they can choose to do whatever they want to do with it and no conditions attached!

      Agreed

Cash doesn't expire, and doesn't limit the place it can be used, unlike vouchers…….

    Lots and lots of Eneloops

    • I wouldn't want to add to the scarcity of these, so I leave them to the people that need them :P

  • Thanks for the comments guys.

We wanted to give them something special, that they would remember as our gift to them on their special day; cash feels like a bit of a cop out. I understand that it would be super useful, but would they remember it? I feel like it may be perceived as a bit of a lazy gift that wont be remembered?

Or am I wrong in thinking the above and that cash would actually be a really excellent present?

Depends on their age/how much they already have/family tradition. I got married young and the best present we got was supermarket vouchers and cash, which we spent on food. By my family also does cash gifts for other events, so it wasn't weird at all for us.

Most of the other "memorable" gifts were memorable for the wrong reasons like ugly ornaments. :/

    • Depends… Would you remember if someone gave you $1k in cash as a 'gift'? I know I would!

A holiday voucher is an excellent gift, BUT $1k won't go far for two people. So if they're a bit short on cash, they may struggle to find the extra money needed to use your gift. Then feel pressured into booking 'something' before the voucher expires and may not enjoy it as much as you might have been hoping.

$1k won't get them overseas travelling, just something locally. Depending on their location, it might give them a 4 day weekend away locally including flights and a few days accommodation.

Its really up to you though. If you want to give them this gift, then do it. You don't need our approval. Just remember if buying a voucher, look closely at the T&C and expiry times, to make sure it fits in with them.

    • I never understood that. I would much rather cash as it is much more benneficial to your needs "at the time" every bodies needs change and what might seem special now wont be later. Cash covers all bases. Also nobody remembers anything about weddings, its all a blur anyway.

Not a gift card. Give cash and tell them its for putting towards a holiday. The amount of money companies make out of expiring gift cards is huge.

  • Don't the Chinese give cash? We is it so bad for Aussies to give cash? Vouchers are crap.

  • Please. Never. Gift card.

  • a bank cheque with $1000 value.

  • If they are the adventure type, sky diving with photo and video package for both of them??

  • I'd split it. Give some as cash and then make a voucher as IOU for enlarged frame print of photo of their choice from their wedding photographer. Some friends chipped in for that as a wedding present. We still remember it 20 years later!
