Virgin Is Going to Reschedule My November Flight: (

I know people will say tough, but…
I booked a flight MEL to HKG on a Saturday, scheduled to leave 0125. This was great because I had a prior business commitment in Melbourne on the Friday, and I have since organised a business commitment on Saturday in Hong Kong.
Seems that Virgin will now change this flights departure time to 1055.
If this is the case I will have to cancel one or other of my business arrangements, and pay an extra night for a hotel :(
Do they give you any kind of compensation for changing your scheduled flight time by 9 hours? I'm Gold.
Really it's not like its Jetstar!

Not sure if it's classified as 'Cancellation'…

Terms & Conditions (International Long Haul)
Cancellations due to Events Within Our Control such as aircraft maintenance or crewing issues: If you choose not to travel, we will waive cancellation fees and provide you with a credit (valid for 12 months).

I wonder if that's just your flight…I was planning to try Virgin for my next MEL-HKG-MEL, but I only do overnight flights.

  • I'd call to discuss first, often is done by computer automatically and can be reversed.

i understand there are operational reasons, but we all lead busy lives, i can't schedule in unproductive days to allow for airlines vacillating about their schedules…

    • '…depart Melbourne at 10:55am for each of the five weekly departures' …that sucks! Guess I'll have to stick with Cathay.

    • i can't schedule in unproductive days to allow for airlines vacillating about their schedules…

Unfortunately you're at the mercy of the carrier. That's just how commercial travel works. If you were important enough, you'd fly privately.

Why not just cancel and book a more convenient flight?

    Oh noes!

  • Refund or tough luck

  • With Jetstar, if they change the times on you, you get the choice of choosing a flight that's roughly 24h before or after the flight you got automatically assigned. If it doesn't suit then there are refunds. I wouldn't panic - just call them and see what the options are.
