Had Accident - Car Insurance Has Just Expired

Hi everyone,

On the 29th of July I had an accident at a roundabout. I was driving on the main road, as I approached the roundabout I T-boned another driver which came from the left side of the roundabout. His vehicle spun across the garter, and smashed through a brick wall & a Telstra box on a private home property. Both cars were towed away. The car I got involved on the accident belongs to my mum.

She is covered with QBE third party insurance. On the 15th of July the insurance expired. We were unaware of this as usually the company sends a reminder letter in the mailbox. However, they did send an email, although my mum is aged, she rarely ever use that service.

We still don't know who's in the wrong. Is there a chance to renew the insurance as it wasn't our fault we didn't read the email in time? We have been with QBE for 2 years.

PS: My Samsung 5 was stolen by the towing truck driver. Any chance of retrieving it?

and yes I agree with you, I'm guessing the OP was flying!

    • I drove past that smash was a beauty,was 5.30pm

do yo live in monterey? it looks like a nice beach side sydney suburb.

  • I drive through that roundabout 3 tmes a week at 5.30 dusk, it's busy and tight everyone is super cautious and nearly everyone comes to a near or complete stop before proceeding

    • So it was the OP crash you saw then…….?

So my guess earlier that the OP was flying was correct from your earlier statement of the swift. Any chance if you remember P plates on the car? :)

  • OP, you were injured in the accident so get all the medical information, such as work certificates etc, and take photos of your face. Then see a solicitor to lodge a CTP claim for injury.
You might get enough to cover your written off vehicle.

    • Assuming the OP isn't the one at fault!

The OP has gone, go do something else.

My father is old. Had a crash, 1 month out of insurance. Been with them for 6 years.
Didn't pay the premium due to not getting a reminder. Both cars a write off.
    Contacted a Solicitor.
    Insurance paid out.
    End of story.
    Get it sorted now

  • My insurance is just a notice with any changes and auto renews, its more of an opt out default is you continue the coverage

If you dont get it sorted just phone the bikies

The insurance company found the other driver guilty. But the other driver does not have insurance. Therefore, they said that they will pay up to $ 5,000 for our car. Minus expenses

    Hi there.

I'm an insurance assessor (loss adjuster). PM me and I'll walk you through your options.

Liability will need to be confirmed, have you completed a V&D for QBE or Third Party Insurer?

    S. 58 of the Insurance Contracts Act may apply if renewal notice had previously been mailed. See: http://www.halseys.com.au/detail.php?id=22

Happy to assist as a public adjuster pro-bono/gratis.

    Cheers.
