Queen bedroom suite - questions on quality too. Tuhan, are you there?

Hi,

I'm looking for a modern style queen bedroom suite in a dark chocolate kind of colour with the bed, two bedside tables, and a dresser with a mirror.

I have had a look online and some companies sell solid stained timber (pine) for a lot cheaper than other companies sell MDF. Why is this? Which is the better quality?

I really like the Berlin unit from Forty Winks http://www.fortywinks.com.au/bedroom-furniture.asp?page=1&im… but it's only MDF and is very expensive?

Can anyone recommend what I should be looking for and where is the best place to look?

Thanks!!

  • Not too sure about MDF mate (my speciality is quite limited to high-end sofas and couches - think Moran sort of stuff), but I know with pine the wood is not as strong to kiln-dried hardwood, so you might find the structure of the couch doesn't last in its original shape over long periods of time.

  • what do u mean by Tuhan?

  • I know Tuhan works at a furniture store so was wondering if he could help too.

Wouldn't MDF warp easier than pine? Why is MDF more expensive than pine? I'm confused…

  • +1

Hey I am here! Sorry was away for a little and had no internet…

Sooo, I can see your dilemma - first of all, Pine is not a hardwood.. and it comes in different qualities.. Probably the best known type of pine that I know of is Radiata pine (much stronger then your standard pine)

MDF comes in different grades as well, but I don't know too much about that… IMO (because I don't have any knowledge to back this up, only from experience) MDF is much stronger than your standard pine beds… Especially your cheap imports…

That bed from Forty Winks is probably the most popular selling bed Forty Winks has been selling for the past 18months… I can help you out with what kind of deal you should be getting if you'd like me too…

Any other questions feel free to ask :)

  • So you're saying it's probably best to buy mdf? Doesn't it die if it gets wet though? Like I have a fish tank near my bed… And I've noticed that my mdf tv cabinet is affected by the tank.

Tuhan, how much would I expect to pay for the Berlin suite?

    • If you are comparing it to Standard pine beds, then I don't see any difference in quality only a difference in style/look (not having the wood/grain look that you would get in a pine bed). But once again this is just my opinion. I don't know too much about MDF… Sorry…

To let you know what sort of price you should be getting I need to know what pieces you want in the suite and what size bed you are looking for??
