Ethernet only DVR system to Wireless

Hi guys,

I have got myself a home security camera system and it has a DVR with only Ethernet capability. I am in a situation where i cannot put the DVR in a radius where my ethernet cable runs. So the only option for me is wireless. So would you guys know if there is a device I could use to get my DVR on the network wirelessly?

Thanks all.

  • You could use powerline adapters if you need ethernet.

    • Thanks. I thought of that too, but not sure if I have single powerline across the house

  • Was in the same situation myself. I used an Apple Airport Express that I had spare, but any wifi router or extender with a LAN port should work.

    • I got a spare Wifi router but not sure how could I use that to my needs

  • DVR with only Ethernet capability.

are you sure what you have is a dvr and not a nvr? are you using baluns?

    • yes am sure, its a DVR for security camera

      • Just get longer cat cables.

  • Try a TP-Link wifi extender: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TP-LINK-TL-WA850RE-300Mbps-Univer…

Pair with your existing wifi, disable the wifi extender functionality if you don't need it, then plug in your DVR. Bingo!

Cheap and reliable fix for $38, and shop around with eBay vouchers etc for an even better price.

    • Thanks mate!
