Anyone Trade US Options?

I'm considering which online discount broker to open an account with to trade options in the US. I'm leaning towards tradestation (https://www.tradestation.com) but I did notice that First Trade (https://www.firstrade.com/content/en-us/welcome) have a promotion that would give me a couple of months of free trades.

Is anyone familiar with either of these places and can give me any feedback? Or what about recommending another one? Any affiliate programs that someone wants to sign me up with?

I'm looking for cheap trades, ease of use and orders that are straight to the market.

It appears with both of these places the only real option to transfer funds is to wire it from my bank, which is going to cost. Then when I want the funds back again it will cost me again - so I don't think it's an option to sign up with one place and then switch to another - I'd end up losing over $100 in the process.

Thanks for any help

  • I am trading US shares and options through https://www.optionsxpress.com.au/ and https://www.interactivebrokers.com.au/en/home.php
Both are well known brokers, especially for Australian traders or non-US residents. Optionsxpress has office and support in Australia and it has a good research utility and trading platform. IB is probably for more advanced trader, but it is one of the cheapest broker.
Unfortunately, both requires $10k minimum deposit even for paper trader account.

I don't have experience with Firstrade or Tradestation, so can't comment on those brokers.

  • I used to use Optionsxpress when they were in Australia. I still have an account, but use Trade station to trade.
You will find they are really good, and their platform is one of the best.

So i would say go with trade station :)

As for transferring funds, just make sure you profit more than $100 :) unfortunately its just one of those costs to fund your account. You could maybe see if a service like OFX can be used. But for me i just do wire transfers.

    Good luck.

    • Hi JCrown9
I just cam across your response to trading US markets.

I myself am wanting to trade the US options market but its next to impossible through IG CMC ANZ etc ….have several accounts.
Im wondering how you yourself get on with Tradestation?

The biggest hurdle I keep coming against being that Im not a US Citizen therefore on the application forms i cannot complete the form.
Im not to fussed about the account size or wire transfer costs….as you say its just one of those costs to fund your account.

Would be greatly appreciated for any feed back

  • Interactive Brokers offer options for US market + others and you can transfer funds via EFT so no cost.
I don't trade US options but their US stock commission is very low.
