Jetstar Changed My Flight - What Are My Options?

Hi guys,

hope someone had this problem before and can help me out.

I'm flying from MEL to Sin on Jetstar, 3 hrs connection, then Jetstar again to Phuket… the 3 hours connection was more than enough… Just discovered that they changed the flight to 3pm the same day, which I can take because my flight arrives in Sin 5pm. My option is next day, overnight in Singapore (which is expensive)… night in Phuket is already paid and will be lost. Can I claim anything from Jetstar, like an airport hotel? I tried the live chat and the answer was basically "tough S$%^"

Thanks!

Did you book them all together (through the one order)? Are they on the same airline? Was it an order of Mel to phuket with stopover?

Maybe also proof read your thread before you post it.

  • If it's all on the same booking I would push them hard. If it is on the same booking they should be assisting you far better.

If it's separate bookings you may well be SOOL.

  • Both flights jetstar, different bookings… no stopover, was mel to sin arriving 5pm then sin to phuket at 8pm…. just both being jetstar thought it would help… had to make different bookings as the melbourne leg is biz and the other economy….

Well theres your problem. Different bookings, nothing you can do. Pay peanuts, get peanuts.

If you booked them as 'one' booking, then they would have to move the later flight for free, but as its two bookings. No deal.

Jetstar already gave you the answer

I tried the live chat and the answer was basically "tough S$%^"

Flights are cheap from Sin to phuket, just book another one that suits your new arrival time. Live and learn.

Next time do it as ONE booking.

  • Flights don't look too expensive from Singapore to Phuket but depends on the date I guess. Maybe try and get a refund or gift voucher from Jetstar and book with a different airline on same day and cop the loss.

    • Thanks ill ring amex as well, they might help…. anyway option now is overnight in expensive singapore…..

      • Good Idea, I had a look at flight times and unfortunately doesn't look like their are any flights after 6:30pm which is too close.

Exactly :( ill let you know if amex can help… thanks again!

looks like SIN-HKT on J*537 leaves at 8.30pm.
Also, your original post doesn't mention what flight got changed?
"Just discovered that they changed the flight to 3pm the same day" - is that the SIN-HKT flight got pulled forward?
and "which I can take" i think is supposed to be "which I can't take"

          More (clearer) information please.

        • @battler: sorry

          original
          mel-sin arriving 5pm

          sin-pkt departing 8:30pm

          new

          mel-sin arriving 5pm

sin-pkt departing 3pm (before my melbourne flight arrives)

they cancelled that 8:30pm for that day, just my luck, they tried to get me on 8:30pm on the following day, then suddenly they offered an 8am (next day)flight ….
they might change it again…who knows… not even gonna book a hotel just in case…

        • @tagniteroi: Take the 8am flight, book into the transit hotel. Problem solved.

      • Book a return flight to KL (1 hour). You can get some cheap pretty awesome hotels near the city (around $50 or less). Also cheap bus (takes 1 hour) to the city as well.

If you want to stay cheap :p

        • yea good idea! love KL! was trying to avoid more stamps on my passport as well… but thanks! :)

        • @tagniteroi: Or go to Bangkok for a night. No extra stamp, cheap Airasia flights as well. Then book a second cheap Air asia flight to Phuket in the morning.

Hotels around the airport are cheap also.

  • Sounds like my ordeal
I had a direct flight Sin to Melb cancelled. I had to redirect SIN to SGN to Melbourne ~15 hrs.
I paid with voucher so wouldn't give me a cash refund to book another airline.

  • Travel insurance…

    • excesses + over ts & cs…

  • You can get cheap hotel rooms in Singapore now under $100 if you're not picky. There's also capsule hotels for around $25.

    • im not picky… cheapest i got in singapore before was a bed in a hostel for 50$… full of mold, no bed linen and room full of men… i was the only woman! hehehe they were nice tho… toilet was rough too… see? im not picky lol

  • Crappy time to fly as not a lot of evening flights SIN - PHK.

Scoot has a 6.30pm flight to Phuket, but you'd be pushing it.

No late Air Asia, Bangkok Air or Thai airways flights either. Not much choice.

This is the risk when you book two separate flights as the airline has no responsibility to make sure you reach your independently booked follow on flight.

    • yea i usually book straight to bangkok, but singapore was cheaper even with the other leg to phuket…. learnt my lesson… my cheaper is now expensive… oh well… never again… and they are not helpful at all! told them that the new flight they got me is 20$ cheaper , if I could get the difference refunded (if it was more im sure i would have to pay)… but again, another big fat no

  • travel insurance? just claim

Jetstar are infamous for this. In fact they are the only airline to do this to me twice. Never again will I book on that airline. Travel insurance would definitely fix that problem. I get mine for free with ANZ Platinum credit card. It's worth $500 at least and the main reason I keep the card. Btw if you are travelling to Thailand w/o travel insurance you are taking a BIG risk: don't do it again if it's too late for this trip.

jetstar and service don't go together,
i do fly with them but my expectation is very low,
if you take off on the correct day you should land ok,
    beyond that pick another airline.

  • Jetscum!

  • It's 2 different airlines essentially (Jetstar and Jetstar Asia) and 2 different bookings.

Call Jetstar and ask if they have a direct flight MEL-HKT that day or SYD-HKT and ask them really nicely to reroute you
