New bargain?

Hey guys

I'm currently banned from posting new deals as my stainless steel water bottles post copped a hammering. I think people thought aluminium and stainless steel bottles are the same…but I didn't do much research anyway.

So, was going to post the bargain below but can't at the moment. If you feel it's worthy of posting, then feel free to post it:

  • save $1? lol, if you really want i'll post it for you :)

    • I think you have to pay for shipping as well with the $23.99 one. The $22.99 one includes shipping!!

  • Wow, one bad deal and you get deal posting privileges temporarily revoked? How long does that last for?

FWIW, I thought the bottle deal was fine… it looks like other OZbargainers didn't do much research either lol

2 negs and you are banned for 5 days…..irrespective of whether or not the negs were justified…….that's why people really need to think before negging.

Negging for duplicates is a major offender…..people should use the 'report' button….gets seen by the mods much quicker, and no-one gets banned

      • Ahh yes now we keep saying it and so do the mods, yet the feature is still there to use hmmm

  • Its weird how the result of users misunderstanding can result in you getting barred, i'm sure this wasnt what the mods intended.

I go to anaconda all the time, i went there yesterday and all the bootles commented about were aluminium.

Funny though this happened last time somone listed stainless steel bottles about a year ago and this is where i learnt the difference between alu and steel

  • I think getting banned for two negs is way too harsh. I'm not sure if linking getting banned to negs is such a good idea unless it is a large number of negs.
It may discourage people to not post bargains, for people not to neg to avoid banning someone (why negs can be misued it is often a valuable source of information to other people), or worse still to neg someone to ban them.

Anyway just my thoughts, could be good as it is.

  • Stix is a great contributor and I'm a fan of his work (both the band and the user) but the water bottle deal wasn't a good deal and could be found cheaper elsewhere.

For the most part, the posting ban has worked well. That and the 2 post per week limit from shops has curbed businesses from posting subpar deals. Andy hit it on the head, think carefully about the negative vote and the impact it has.

The big picture of the ban is automation. The mods can't be here 24 hours a day and the less manual moderation we do the better. Down the line, I think we may see variable voting equations where 2 negative votes gets you a ban for 5 days, but post another deal after where it receives 2 negs and the ban will be longer. On the flip side, if a business posts a highly positive deal then perhaps they can exceed the 2 post a week limit. Something else talked about is if enough people negative the comment on a negative vote, then it would get removed. All speculation at the moment. I don't program the site so not sure what the plan is.

Hi Neil, Actually thats incorrect the deal could not be found cheaper elsewhere. the neg comments were from people who did not understand the difference between aluminium bottles and steel.

Again this is a unusual issue, so if the majority is wrong then and then negs the deal how this make it right?

      • Thinking the exact same thing. Well said

    • I think its the fact it was stainless steel. A lot of ppl dont understand that long-term usage of stainless steel is better than aluminium.

I have 2 medical researchers in my familiy and one medical practioner and its one of the advice they give to me…
Not sure if its relevant but could be a possible reason for a higher price than most aluminium stuff.

Perhaps it would help if the Report button was in a more prominent location on the page. Or a separate "Duplicate" button could be created. At the moment, it's next to the advertisement and when I look at the page, I automatically skip that horizontal band because of it.

I think leave the comments as they are. If there are too many negative votes, they could be hidden, but still allow the user to view it if they want to. We're curious to know why a particular comment received such bad reception.

    • Good idea. Would be good for a bigger Report button. I'll add it as a feature request in the forum.

  • Anyone going to post the canvas deal? LOL

And neil - have you got a link for cheaper stainless steel water bottles? I haven't bought these yet.

  • Never mind, my mate posted it. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/32338

  • I like how it says "honest discounted offer price of only $22.99" when original price is $23.99 lol, they could've boosted the RRP upto like 29.99+ to make us feel better. either way cool deal

    • the 23.99 does not include shipping……whereas the deal does :)

      • ahhh i knew i was missing something, thanks andy :)

good post stix sorry for losing faith haha

        • No worries mate. :D
