Suggestions for Queen Bed Frames in Sydney

Hey guys,

I have busted my Queen bed frame a few times and I have tried to fix it by redrilling and securing it but I am not having any luck. So it is currently being held up by some bricks in the mean time.

My last frame was from fantastic furniture and has lasted me about 5/6 years.

So my question is, does any one have any suggestions on where to go for a new queen bed frame? I am happy to pay for a quality frame, I'm up for a bargain, but I don't want to get a rubbish quality frame.

Has any one tried any of the frames with the gas struts to have some extra storage?

Also, on a side note, I may soon need a new mattress. If anyone has any suggestions for that too it would be great, but this isn't as urgent.

Any Australian made items would be good to know too, would be good to support the local economy.

Thank you in advance guy's!!

    Wooden pallets.

  • By frame do you mean 'base'?
We got ours from Sleeping Duck last year, no problems at all. Sleepingduck.com.au

  • I've had a IKEA for 6 years no issues, they have ones with storage under it too

  • Don't get another one from fantastic, they're just rubbish.
Just go to a furniture shop like furniture galore and look for a timber bed with thick slats, not those thin ones with the support in the middle.
As for the mattress, myer often runs 40% off mattress sales and you get myer one points.

It's impossible to compare mattress's across shops. Even brand name mattresses (sealy, etc) are 'private label' so each chain calls the same mattress something else.

The 40% off at myer, ends up being the same price as other mattress shops, without the discount.

    • depends - my FF frame has lasted me almost 10 years

Ikea has a good balance between price and longevity.

After 6-7 years, if I get sick of the look, I don't mind throwing it out and buying a new one because I didn't pay that much for it in the first place.

My current one is about that age and after all those years of rocking, it's still going strong! haha

Another vote for ikea - comes with a 25 year warranty. Just make sure you hold on to the receipt or use a loyalty card to keep track of it.

    milk crates and cable ties.

  • Also checkout Amart furniture. They usually throw in a free mattress with most queen bed frames or give you an equivalent price off your matress of choice. Alot more frames had free mattresses instore compared to the ones shown online. Just had a quick look online and they seem to have some queen mattresses on sale too.

  • How wobbly are Ikea sprung slat bases? I got an el cheapo sprung slat on ebay and it is too wobbly for my satisfaction. Wondering if it is inherent to the breed or I've just got a dud.

  • I bought a good quality frame second hand on Gumtree

  • Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it. I might go have a look at Ikea on the weekend. I have seen a few on their website but I would like to see it in person. Let's just hope my Mrs doesn't want to spend too much there haha

    • Not sure what you guys are like, but if you're fat/pretty heavy, don't get an IKEA frame. They're not made for it. They're great frames if you both weigh, for example, under 160-170kgs. But if you're heavier than that you might break the slats.

That's the one thing I noticed on all the negative reviews, people were breaking the slats because they were too heavy. Other than that, IKEA make pretty good beds.

      • thanks! that's some good input, I will have to read a bit into it then.

  • hate those flexible slats which ikea and most import (cheaper) bed frames now only stock.
