Business Class from Sydney to Bangkok - Would You Choose Thai Airways or Emirates?

We are couples planning to travel from Sydney to Bangkok.

We are selecting between Thai and Emirates airways.

Thai is taking 747 and Emirates is A380

We would like to sit next to each other and if there is no privacy dividers, that would be great!

Pros on Thai:
The two seats next to the window does not have privacy dividers.

Cons on Thai:
Seats and planes look older than Emirates’

Pros on Emirates:
Seats and planes look good and have wifi

Cons on Emirates:
The seats next to each other and with no privacy dividers only locate in the middle instead of next to Windows

What’s your experience on these two airlines? For example regarding to food, lounge, most importantly, service.

Which one would you prefer?

Emirates A380 business class is very good. They were one of the first with the proper lie flat seat and almost cubicle type spacing for Business class.
Thai 747 not so good, and won't feel as special.

Unless big difference in price or flight schedule not convenient, go Emirates.

    Jetstar economy class.

  • Thai might have a better lounge in Bangkok.

I've been to the lounge in Suvarnabhumi Airport (Thai Airways). Very nice and comfy. private sleeping pods if you're tired…. free Wifi (a little slow, but usable for Ozbargaining).

There's a bit of food to enjoy (like noodles, meat buns and sandwiches) and you can pour your own drinks (free booze).

I don't think you can compare A380 business class to 747 Business Class (forget the airlines altogether).

The Thai 747 is probably >30 years old. It's noisy. The fit out is old.

    • Which airways have better service you would say?

      • It doesn't matter … A380 wins hands down over 747. You're flying business class, neither airline will have bad service.

On the other hand, if you're comparing Qantas A330 vs Emirate A380, you might choose based on airline service factors.

        • Agree except for the fact. Just because you fly business, doesnt mean the service will be good.

I have flown some shit business products - such as Cathay.

I would rate Emirates as better than Thai, however I havent tried Thai yet.

Don't forget to grab those Bose QC25/35 on your way out.

Don't forget to grab those Bose QC25/35 on your way out.

Meh - who wants used headphones … I think you can afford your own set, when you're flying business class

I think he meant grab a QC35 before flying out of Australia.

    • You realise it is possible to refurb an aircraft right?

I'm not disagreeing with you (generally) - I would have a similar assumption that A380 > B747 regardless because of the age of the aircraft, but just realise that you can refurb an aircraft!

      • Yes - I've been on re-furb'd 747s. The refurb tends to be on the inside - seats, colour schemes, toilets, etc. The noise factor is still there - aircon, engine, etc.

Even the latest 747-8 (which could be newer than an Emirates A380), still isn't as comfortable as newer generation aircraft like A380, A330, Dreamliner. There's lots of technology in the newer generation of planes that makes the more comfortable - cabin pressure, humidity, fresh air, etc.

Have a look on www.seatguru.com and you can compare the seat sizes etc… Also not that in business class not all the seats have the same pitch..

Good review here of Emirates: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2017/01/11/emirates-a… and Thai here: https://www.ausbt.com.au/thai-airways-boeing-747-royal-silk-…

For me it depends on the frequent filer partnership…. if one world sometimes you can book Emirates flights via Qantas I believe…

  • Emirates.

  • Emirates, easy one

  • Emirates - no question.

  • Emirates all day every day.

  • With Emirates you should get Chauffeur drive as well, big bonus

  • Emirates. The divider in between the seats is sufficient for privacy… and theres a bar !

  • Emirates A380 for sure.

  • Thai airways has dropped considerably in terms of service and their fleet is ancient. Hands down Emirates.
